Sad WWYD - just found out one of my OBs is sick

I found out today that one of the OBs at my practice (there are only 2) has cancer. He's the husband of someone I go to the gym with, and I'm heartbroken for them (they also have two little girls, and he's such a wonderful man). I don't know if I'm supposed to know and don't know if I should say anything at my next appointment (I'm shying towards not). I just hope everything is ok and he's successfully treated quickly and as painlessly as possible.

Should I say something? Or wait until someone mentions it at the doctor's office if they even do? Since I found out at the gym, I feel like maybe this isn't public knowledge and I should just keep it to myself.

I'm down in NC, so none of you ladies have to worry it's your doctor or anything. Just wanted to make that clear. I feel so sad.

I would not mention it unless it is common knowledge. Knowing through a friend and knowing through the office are two totally different things.

I wouldnt say anything unless they tell you at the office.

Thanks Marissa. I'm so sad about it. I'm going to wait until DH comes home tonight to tell him. I understand he's already at Duke for treatment (I'm not sure what kind of cancer it is, but someone said maybe stomach?) -- the treatment center at Duke is phenomenal, so that gives me hope. My MIL is still alive because of the amazing doctors at Duke.

I want to find out more, but I also don't want to be too nosy. I understand an email went around about it yesterday so maybe I'll ask a friend if she can forward it to me so I can get his name on some prayer chains down here. I don't think that thought would've ever crossed my mind in NY. What a different world this is.

I guess I should go start baking and cooking. I'm so not in the mood now.

Oh that is such awful news. I probably wouldn't say anything about it until someone told me specifically but if you felt close enough to the wife to say something I might do that. I think a lot of times people don't say anything bc they think it's taboo when people could often use the support.

My best friends father just had stomach cancer and it's really rough but hopefully he is coming out the other side of it.
