Jersey Shore- am i the only one?
So i was watching the premiere of JS and one thing i noticed right off the bat were the cars each of the "castmates" were driving. Certainly an upgrade.
This pizzed me off. And im to the point where i might not even watch this show anymore.
*** is wrong w/ our society? These MORONS who contribute ABSOLUTLEY F*CKING NOTHING to society are making more $ than i will ever see in my lifetime. This all to bang whoever they want, drink, and sound like uneducated azzholes.
Im a teacher, and dont get me wrong, i am very happy and i do well, but my DH and i do NOT drive BMWs and prob never will (bc we cant afford to). But 3 of these idiots are driving around in new BMWs.
Districts all over the island are laying off teachers. Talented, EDUCATED teachers. They will have to find ways to make money. But again, these idiots have millions.
We value the wrong things in this culture and sometimes quite honestly, it makes me SICK
ETA: i am NOT AT ALL jealous of these kids. I guess i was mainly trying to just explain how F'ed up our society is that we pay people the $ these kids are getting paid to do NOTHING

DH feels the same way (I agree but don't let it bother me as much). It infuriates him, especially because it shows what we value here.

Hmm; I guess it doesn't bother me cause I wouldn't trade places with those kids for a million dollars. Each. They are laughingstocks. So if that's the "price" of a new BMW or what have you, no thanks.

I dont envy them. They're pigs. They will be rembered for the smooch room, or granades. In 5 years they will all be has beens. And probably broke. My cousin told me ( she is 13) she wanted to be a teacher, because she loved her kindergarten teacher. So, i wouldnt stress it.

I totally agree with you, which is why I don't ever watch that show. The more and more people who watch, for whatever reason they have for watching, it just drives up the ratings. The castmembers now know that they are the 'talent' and it's gotten to the point where they can now demand more $. If MTV had just canned them after the first season and hired a new cast, I don't think the show and its popularity would be where it is today. But MTV's main concern is $ and as long as JS is generating $ for them, then they will continue to air more and more JS.
It's the same with the tabloid magazines. People say "Oh the paparazzi is so intrusive" but as long as there is a demand for the product, then they will continue to do what they do.
There is nothing wrong with entertainment but it seems that we, as a society, have degraded to the point where we are at the lowest common denominator.

This show is nothing but trash, there's no 'point' of the show... it's just disgusting people getting trashed and mauling eachother and getting louder and louder.

They had BMW 3series...their payments are probably about $400-$500 per month...it's not like they were driving Mabachs/Bentleys, etc.
Mike was the only one driving a "higher" end vehicle w/the Range Rover.
They all had "nice" cars to begin with - Jenni had an Escalade - now she has a 3 series. Pauly also had an Escalade and driving a Caddy.
I don't think it's that "big" of a deal - IMHO.

I think its a big deal. I dont drive a 3 series and i have a MUCH more noble job than these idiots. $400-$500 a month payments isnt chump change. Esp when they do NOTHING of value to earn it.
Its not exactly the cars that pizzed me off, it what the "upgrade" in their cars symbolized KWIM?

I can list a thousand useless "entertainers" and athletes that don't deserve to make the money they do, but who cares really? It's scripted reality tv and they are pretty much the paid actors.....don't watch the show if you don't like how they are earning their money.

Why does everything on LIF always have to turn to drama or people act rude or take offense? Its becoming increasingly impossible to state one's thoughts and opinions anymore.

I am totally with you on this. People are unemployed all over, the economy is crappy and a bunch of losers who party a lot manage to get on TV and get nice cars.
This doesn't bother me as much as Teen Mom's Amber getting 280K for a season. Good way to promote teen pregnancy.
Not to say I don't watch this stuff. Considering 90% of programming now is reality TV, hard not to.

Ehh---I don't know -- there are tons of people on "reality tv" that make money that they don't really deserve.
The way MTV likely justifies the salaries is probably that they are producing tons of revenue for the network with advertising.
I can think of actors who make millions of dollars for crap movies that don't earn their money either.

while it is totally 'unfair' that they earn oodles of dollars for basically being useless fame wh*res with no viable talent... at least they're also mindless consumers and each and every one of them will carelessly spend that money thereby doing some good by putting it back in the economy.

LOL Michele, you are too funny. LOL. I am laughing out loud. Pat feels the same way. He hates watching them. He just doesn't get it.
However, they are paid a lot of money to make asssses of themselves. Good for them. They are providing me with tons of entertainment. I noticed Jen's car is the same as the one she drove in season 1. I know she lives in Long Island so prior to working on the show, she drove that car. I know many people who drive BMW's and aren't rich. It could be just a lease. It really isn't that expensive. Pauly is driving the same Caddy he drove in season 1. Again, affordable. Snookie's 3 series beemer- affordable... Ronnie and Mike though- TOTAL upgrade! I just think thay maybe MTV pays for them though. Could be, right?

I've never seen a single episode of Jersey Shore. I know it's entertainment, but it's just stupid tv and not worth my time.

ITA with this. They will all be broke and forgotten about in a couple years.
The only thing I don't like is that there are a lot of young impressionable kids who watch it who don't realize this.
