Re: lidocaine patches??

i'd call the midwife...they use lidocane when they do tooth procedures like root canals, but since it has effedrine or in it they can't use it... so I have a feeling this is off limits...im not a doc so i'd call the midwife before using it.... goodluck and feel better!!

Re: lidocaine patches??

I used them during my pregnancy. My pain management doctor said they were fine.

Re: lidocaine patches??

Cat B is about as good as you can get...(A = best) and topical lidocaine will not have epinephrine in it.

The problem with the epi (as in dental anesthetic) is that it constricts blood vessels, which can restrict blood flow to the baby. For that same reason, the lidocaine that is used on skin (for stitches, pain relief, etc) doesn't have epi b/c that would constrict the blood vessels and kill your skin!

Best advice to all - if you are worried, just call. Hubby & I are both docs, but whenever I have a question he tells me to "call my doctor".

HTH!

Re: lidocaine patches??

you can totally use them.. i used them in my first trimester where all my docs said they were safe. . I used them on extremeties though (ankles and then upper back) they did say there was a mild mild mild contraindication for areas very close to the uterus but it three specialists and by obgyn okay'd them

edited to add. . they prescribed them particularly bc I was pregnant and they said it was the safest pain med
