Question for Catholics who have baptised their kids

Especially for those that had a private baptism--what kind of gift did you give your priest?

I am clueless and now kind of panicking as the baptism is this Saturday!

No gift for the priest, but we did a church donation with #1 for $100 and #2 for $50 (money has been tighter)

I didn't give the priest anything specifically for him (it was a private baptism). I gave a nice donation to the church and invited him to the party afterwards.

We didn't give the priest a gift. We did give a donation to the church though. We also didn't have a private baptism.

We didn't give a gift to the priest just a $100 donation to the church.

"suggested donation" for the church was $100 for #1, and $125 for #2. That's what we're donating. We are not giving the priest anything. It would never occur to me to do so.

We gave the suggested donation of $100, it wasn't supposed to be private, but the other family never showed, so we had the place to ourselves!

I just had my son's private christening on Saturday. We gave $150 to the church and $150 to the priest. My dad (who works at the church) said that $100 was the typical donation to the church.

Are you friendly with your priest?

We are so we did a bottle of his favorite wine, a tray of his favorite cookies, and a GC to his favorite restaurant.

Plus the donation to the church. I felt uncomfortable handing him cash Chat Icon

DS's baptism was private and the priest was a friend of mine so I gave him a huge tray of homemade cookies (my mom makes them) & a card with $200 in it. I gave the church $100 donation for allowing me the use of the church without being a member.

He ate the cookiesChat Icon and returned the check to meChat Icon

Re: Question for Catholics who have baptised their kids

Thanks everyone. I think the tricky thing is that this is our family's priest who is coming down from LI to DC to do the baptism. We are making a donation to our parish here, but wanted to do something for our priest, personally.

I appreciate all of the responses!

We walked in with $100 in an envelope but ended up giving him $50 instead since he ruined her baptism and I will never forgive him for that.

I would do a bottle of wine in your situation!

We gave him $150 but we have also known him forever and he was the same priest who married us.
