NYC teachers- maternity leave
If you are due in September, what happens? Can you come back for a week in Sept and then take leave?
How long is the leave? Thanks!

Yes, you can come back for a week and then leave.
You can take 6 weeks (vbirth) or 8 weeks (c-sec) paid (with time from your CAR) and then stay out until 12 weeks after birth with no pay, but you maintain your benefits.

I am so glad you asked this. I had the same question. I do not have many days in my bank, as I am new. I am worried that they will not hold my job- is that an option?

You can borrow up to 20 days... That is what I am doing- I think I have like 10 days in my CAR.

I have no days in my CAR. What happens then?!? And thanks for info. Is it 12 weeks total or 12 additional weeks after 6 paid weeks?

12 weeks total. After that, you will lose your benefits.
You can borrow up to 20 days.

You should sign up for the maternity workshop. Everything you need to know will be adsressed and there areneven different options if you dont have enough dats (borrowing days etc...)
