Need advice- WWYD?

So I was laid off. I just started a new job. Literally- today is my first day. I stopped looking once this was finalized on Monday. It is a HUGE pay cut and a lot of responsibility. It was not what I was originally looking for, but can lead somewhere great (or not)

Well today I got a call about another job- more like what I was originally looking for. It is also a contact of my old boss, who I just loved working for and I would like be working with him again in some capacity.

So I don't know if I should even call the person back and explore it- or just let it go.

WWYD?

I would absolutely follow up. You need to keep your options open, especially in this $hitty economy.

My motto is to ALWAYS explore all options, even if you're happy in your current position. You just never know where it will lead. Good luck!

Yep!

It can't hurt and the current job doesn't need to know.

You do it in your spare time, interview after work, and see what happens.

Trust me, this job would have no loyalty to you if push came to shove, why should you have loyalty to them??

Re: Need advice- WWYD?

Def follow up. Employers don't look out for your best interest so why should you look out for theirs?

I once quit a job that I was at for a little over a week because another position that I had been interviewing for at the same time made an offer. At the time i was unemployed so i had to take the first offer that came to me but the one that came later is the one that i really wanted. so i gave my new employer almost a week's notice (i resigned on a monday and offered to stay through friday). I thought that was fair considering i had just started! he didn't want it though and told me to leave that day. he felt burned - which i understood and felt bad about - but i knew i couldn't look back.

It's worth a call back. I had a similar situation. I didn't take the new job but the job I took met the offer.

Re: Need advice- WWYD?

Absolutely! After only one day, you don't really owe any loyalty to this new job. Yeah, you'd leave them in the lurch if you took a new job, but I'm sure you'd give 2 weeks notice so they're really no worse off than before they hired you, which was so recently.

Good luck!
