I'm SICK over bringing DS to daycare next week...
I can't shake this feeling and I'm literally nauseous over bringing him to daycare when I go back to work next week. I am comfortable with the place and people and everything, but I am just sad for him. He's used to Mommy holding him and rocking him to sleep and playing with him all day. Just typing that last sentence brought me to tears... literally. I feel like they are going to sit him in a bouncy seat all day and make him cry himself to sleep instead of rocking/consoling him.
Can any fellow daycare moms PLEASE help me feel better about this? I am literally about to tell my job forget it... I'm not coming back. DH and I agreed that I would give it a shot and if it doesn't work out, to stay at home with him. I just don't feel like I want to try...

I posted My Top Ten Reasons before but in case you need it:
Reasons to love daycare: 1- They get your kid on a schedule 2 - They potty train for you 3 - They are full of advice on how to deal with "I do it myself" tantrums. 4 - Your kid will learn to share better if he's around other kids 5 - Your kid will get every germ to mankind and become super immune for elementary school. 6 - Your kid will get you sick & give you super immunity to germs as well. 7 - You will get a ton of crafts home from your child...paintings made from handprints, etc. 8 - Your baby will get used to other people & will have less stranger anxiety 9 - Opens up tons of new babysitting options by snagging teachers' phone numbers 10- You have no choice

Re: I'm SICK over bringing DS to daycare next week...
Listen to me. It's going to be OK. I Promise.
I felt the same way. I cried for weeks at the thought. But let me tell you- if you are comfortable with the place, he is going to get the best care.
The caregivers there rocked her, they played with her, they cuddled her, they sang to her. She got the best care from them-and your DS will too. If the place is good- and I am sure it is if you are ok with it- he will NOT be just sitting in a bouncy chair all day. He won't.
Every day got a little easier- and now she is 8 months old and she LOVES going there. LOVES it.
I know it's hard... and the first week will be the hardest- I won't lie. But you will look back on it later and say, I'm glad I did this. He is ok. I am ok.
I was there...I know!

Re: I'm SICK over bringing DS to daycare next week...
I felt sick as well in the beginning - it was weird too because he was part time and I felt people didn't really know him.
He loves it though! I never thought about that when we were deciding what to do that he would enjoy it so much at such an early age.
This morning, I was watching the news and he went into the kitchen and I heard a few small thumps - I go in there and he's sitting with his daycare bag at the front door ready to go
They all love him there - and he loves being there. It makes it easier. It takes a bit of time though for you to feel comfy - and what you are feeling is totally normal!
ETA - He's learned so much in the past year he's been there too - it's so cute so see how much he's learned.

Re: I'm SICK over bringing DS to daycare next week...
I used to cry myself to sleep on maternity leave thinking about having to bring him to daycare, so I completely know where are are at right now.
It will be okay. It really will. DS will get on a schedule and you'll find a groove and he will have a ball there. You researched places and picked a center you are comfortable with, have faith in that. His teachers will take great care of him and you'll see, he'll end of making little friends and he'll be so happy.
Just this morning I dropped DS off (10 mo) and he saw his two best buddies and shrieked with excitement and they all clapped hands - they were pysched to see eachother, it was Good luck!

Re: I'm SICK over bringing DS to daycare next week...
I made DH take DS to daycare since I wasn't sure I'd leave him there if I took him. You have to trust your instincts and why you picked this place. I'm sure he will be well taken care of.
also, think about it this way...you have the option of not working if you decide it's not for you. That's in your back pocket

Re: I'm SICK over bringing DS to daycare next week...
I was like that too, but my DS was 1. It's better to start early, I learned the hard way. He would cry and crawl after me everytime I left the room for a good month and a half. Heartbreaking!!!! Now he absolutely loves it there, we walk in and he runs to the teachers and gives them hugs. He learns so much there and has fun. It's so good for him socially too, you will see. All will be okay!

Re: I'm SICK over bringing DS to daycare next week...
I felt the same way. I just felt so bad that she wasn't going to "know" anyone there.
Now 8 months later she loves it there and they love her. They never just let her cry in the bouncy, if she is fussy or cranky they hold her, rock her, play with her, talk to her.
They are just so great to her! Her main teacher was out a few days this week, she came back in the middle of the day yesterday, and my DD got so excited when she walked in the door. That may bother some people, but it makes me feel good that she is comfortable there.

Re: I'm SICK over bringing DS to daycare next week...
The list someone posted is right on...
First week I was sooo sad. I barely new this baby and I felt so sad putting him in a strange environment
Now, I LOVE it. He's 21 months and has been going since 3.5 months He doesn't know any difference. Everyday (except Fridays) I ask him where we're going and he says "kool" He loves his teachers, he's on a great schedule, sleeps better there, learns so much, is very sociable, and has become pretty well rounded due to it. Sometimes I drop him off and he doesn't even look back. I love to watch him play. Oh, and sometimes he doesn't want to come home. It will get easier

Re: I'm SICK over bringing DS to daycare next week...
It is hard but he will love it. I pick DS up and watch sometimes before I go in the room. He is always smiling and clapping. He has his little friends and all the teachers know him and give him hugs. He has been going since he was 3 months and is now 9 months.
DD is 3 and has been going since she was 7 months old. She has learned so much and I have an entire draw full of cute little projects. She actually asks to to go school on the weekends. It is so much fun to pick her up and listen to her chat about her day...everyday she has a new best friend and she loves her teachers. As we leave each day she is giving every one hugs and they all love her.
Honestly I never doubt that I did the right thing by putting my kids in daycare (besides the fact that I didn't have a choice.)
He will be fine!

ITA with everyone. I wish I read that list before I went back to work. I was so upset. It does get better. I promise. I race out of work to pick up my boy whether at daycare or my parents. The look on his face when he sees me is priceless. I melt everyime.
#10 on the list definitely makes sense. Sad but a true reality.

Re: I'm SICK over bringing DS to daycare next week...
I go back to work on Monday! I can't believe maternity leave is over just when we have gotten in a groove and is so much easier. I have a nanny, but I have a pit in my stomach that I won't be her everything all day everyday. I get it and will be in tears with you next week... I know it will just take time but I still don't like it one bit.

I agree 100% with all of this. It gets easier to deal with (emotionally) after a week or two. DS is so independent because of daycare, IMO. I love it!

Re: I'm SICK over bringing DS to daycare next week...
DS started at 13wks and he didn't know the difference. He is now 16 months and I can say he loves it. He he has friends and sometimes he just runs from us and plays. I have a big stack on my counter of all the artwork he has done. They have a board with photos of it in the classroom of all the different things he does. I KNOW he has fun. After DC and on the weekends are all about him. He gets so much more out of DC then I could ever give him at home. And he is super outgoing too!
ETA: The weeks leading up to DC I cried and the first day I dropped him off I sobbed. I checked in on him later and saw that he was happy as can be, it was just me that needing the adjusting.

Re: I'm SICK over bringing DS to daycare next week...
those first few weeks are rough. but the teachers in the baby room are so great..they will rock your DS when he needs it and take good care of him.
I was a mess thinking of going back to work and surprisingly those first few days were such a blur, that before I knew it I would be on my way home to DS.
He will be fine. I work part time now and DS still goes to daycare 2x a week and has so much fun!
