Cut on dog's nose and not eating?
When I got home from work today, DH mentioned that our older dog, Irwin, hadn't eaten his food again, maybe the 2nd or 3rd day in a row. He used to be like this before we had our younger dog, Lucy. We'd pretty much just always leave out food and water for him and he'd pick away at his leisure. Now, Lucy is an endless vacuum and can't be trusted with food lying around so we really had to retrain Irwin to eat right away. So, now while he didn't eat all day the past few days, he did eat eventually, but late at night. He'll also eat any and all treats and has not given up on begging for people food. We haven't changed his food and he's been completely normal- pooping, peeing, prancing around the house, cuddling, playing with Lucy, etc. But I did notice he has a cut on his nose- nothing big just a shallow scratch along the top. Do you think this might be why he's not eating? Maybe the cut is bothering him? I'm not too concerned just yet, he's a quirky dog at the best of times, but we're gonna keep watching him the next few days to see how he is.

Re: Cut on dog's nose and not eating?
Hope he's eating by now!!
Smokey does this every now and again too...we actually found that we had to lower the amount of food we were giving him and he started eating again. Also the cut on his nose could be bothering him, maybe there is something in the food that makes it hurt (like remember to change hands when you eat french fries and you have a cut on your finger or people will look at you weird when you freak out in McDonald's ). Smokey gets a lot of little cuts on his nose, and in the summer it sometimes gets sunburnt, and we put liquid vitamin E on it (vet's recommendation) and though he likes to lick it off, it does help him heal quicker!

Re: Cut on dog's nose and not eating?
I'll give it a try. He wouldn't eat out of his bowls. I put the food on the floor next to the bowls and he ate it? I cleaned them out and put the rest in there and he didn't touch it for awhile, but went and ate it later like usual. I'll try that for his cut though anyway, it has to be annoying.
PS- Now I'm craving McD's fries. lol!
ETA: Thanks!
