Gorgonzola

So I'm pretty sure that Gorgonzola Cheese is off limits ... but figured I'd check just in case.

Our favorite steak house makes the most delicious Garlic Bread in a melted Gorgonzola Cheese Sauce.

Any chance its ok since the cheese has been heated to melting?

Re: Gorgonzola

my Dr said any cheese was fine as long as it was pasteurized and then I specifically asked about blue cheese (which is close to gorgonzola, no?) bc a friend of mine hadnt been allowed to eat it and again he said as long as it was pasteurized.

Re: Gorgonzola

I was told no, but if it was pasteurized, you are ok.

With that being said, my fave Gorgonzola cheese dip is from Barrique in Babylon village, and the waiter promised me that it was pasteurized and said that in fact all cheese sold in NYS restaurants must be pasteurized. IDK if that is true, but I ate it, and didn't get listeria.

Re: Gorgonzola

Hmmmm ... maybe I'll call the restaurant and ask if its pasteurized.

The more I think about it the more I want some of that bread!

When I was preggo with DD I had two restaurants tell me their cheese was NOT pasteurized.

One was a greek place and one was an upscale steak place that had buffalo mozz that the chef told me was not pasteurized...
99.9% are but I would still just ask. lol, I was actually amazed at how many "crazy" faces I got when I asked this at places. I don't think its that far out of a question.

NO not totally off limits- you have to check the ingredients to check if the cheese is made with pasteurized milk. I found feta and "fresh" mozzarella cheese in the grocery store that are pasteurized and i'm sure they make gorgonzola that is pasteurized too. ask your restaurant if the cheese is off the boat from Italy- chances are it is not and they can read the container for you.

That is true. My dad owned restaurants for years. Unless you are going to some bizzare restaurant or farmer's market and the owner is breaking the law, you will be fine.
