Kind of upset this week
Erin started a Music Group this week at Alternatives for Children. It is open to all children, but I think typically, EI children are the majority of those who enroll. I was upset to see just HOW far behind everybody else she truly is. All the other kids in the group can walk, march, run, jump, follow instructions, talk/sing, etc and she just can't do anything even remotely close. It just really drove home for me how disabled she actually is. I wanted to cry all day that day. One family member there even had the audacity to ask how old she is and when I told her 22 months, she said, "And she doesn't walk yet???" Thanks lady...I didn't know there is a problem with it!!

I am so sorry! It is really hard to go in new settings and get reminded how far behind our children are. Sometimes I feel like it's a slap in the face over and over.
Hang in there!!!!

I'm sorry sweetie - I've been there and it's a horrible feeling
Things will only get better from here, I'm sure of it.
And that lady? Some people are just ignorant - and SHE is seriously disabled socio-emotionally.

I'm sorry. It's really hard to see all the other children participating while your's is not.
A long time ago I stopped looking at milestones and comparing DD to children her age. It was just a punch in the gut every time so instead I focus on the little things she does which are milestones for her. Like yesterday she finally took a sip from an open up. DD is 4 1/2 so I guess that's about 4 years behind but I thought it was great!! : ).

Exactly !!!!!! Although this is really hard to do. Our kids show us how important these progressions are ! But gosh, it's so hard not to go back in to "panic mode"

Re: Kind of upset this week
I never compare my niece to other kids anymore. She is making such progress and coming into her own, I don't care about what other kids can and can't do. As far as what that mother said to you, I'm sure that was hurtful. Some people can be so insensitive. Try and stay positive!!

I know...when I go to DS's school, and see how far behind he is from others...it always bothers me.
