Potty training help - boys (sorry long)
My DS turned 3 in December and is still in diapers full time. We first tried potty training last summer and put him in underwear for a few days but he would wet himself and not even tell me he was wet. I figured he wasn't ready. DS also receives speech and OT services so last summer he really didn't have the language to tell me when he had to go.
FF to this winter. I was on maternity leave from Nov - Jan and tried again but he refused to wear underwear or pull-ups and even wanted to wear the babies size 1 diapers.
He has and can pee on the potty but only when we make him, he never tells me has to go and if I try to put underwear or pull-ups on him he gets hysterical screaming and crying. DH got him to wear underwear last weekend and he had a poop accident and was embarrassed and crying for a diaper.
He has never woken up dry so he still needs a diaper/pull-up at night.
DH thinks I should force him to wear pull-ups during the day but he gets so hysterical about it and I don't think its a good idea for this to be traumatic for him.
So, is he just not ready? Should I force it more or wait for him to be interested? He is also in school, speech or OT 5 days a week which complicates things.
Sorry so long TIA

I don't think he's ready. I'd give him a few more months. Maybe ask him if he want to put a pull-up on over his diaper or under his diaper. But I'd let it go for now. Maybe you can get some feedback from the OT people - see how they feel.
Maybe you can plant the seeds for a reward system. Have a good manners chart now so he gets used to getting rewards. Then when its time for potty training, he'll be excited to receive more prizes?
Not sure what type of seat you have, but maybe he wants the other kind. Maybe he'd want to pick out a new potty when he's ready.
I'd but some potty books, DVDs to prep him. DS has a book with a potty seat on the cover and it says, "not all potty stars are perfect right away, sometimes accidents happen but really that's okay". I liked that line so he knew it was okay. And I've read it so often, I had that line memorized.
