What is the earliest you can baptize baby?
Our baby will be born in August.
My sister-in-law is having her 30th Bday party in November. A date hasn't been picked yet, but my MIL is coming up from Florida for the party and has asked that we try to plan the baby's Christening around the same time as the bday party so she can be here for both on one plane ticket.
That being said, is November too soon for a baby to be baptized? We're talking 2-3 months old... what's the "norm"?
Thanks!!

JMO but I hope our baby can be baptized asap within the first 2 months of life. We're having a July baby and I was hoping to have it done by the end of September.

Re: What is the earliest you can baptize baby?
I think it's just a matter of preference. I have been to christenings where the baby is 2 months old and some where the baby is closer to 12+ months old.
My is due in April and the Christening will probably be in July. We are shooting for July b/c that's what will work best for family and the church schedule.

Re: What is the earliest you can baptize baby?
I'm due August 31st and I'm hoping to have the christening towards the end of October, beginning of November. I think it's just personal preference. But I also have all the old religious biddies in my family in the back of my mind "You better hurry so the baby doesn't go to purgatory God forbid!"

Re: What is the earliest you can baptize baby?
i think it def. is more of a personal opinion and what your beliefs are.
DH's family is catholic and I know they are usually much quicker to baptize. We (dh and I) are protestant and have decided to wait until the child is about 5 months. I am due in November and we decided we would like to wait until it gets warmer out to have the christening, prob. april. We are not opposed to doing it sooner but were just discussing how the weather would make a big difference.

Re: What is the earliest you can baptize baby?
For those of you baptizing early, particularly Catholic, are you supposed to contact the church before birth? I just looked at my church's website, and it doesn't say, but it does say they have a class you have to take.

Re: What is the earliest you can baptize baby?
A baby can be baptized as early as the church can get you in.
DS was baptized at 3.5 months old. The plan is to do the same this time with .

Re: What is the earliest you can baptize baby?
I plan to baptize DD at 2 1/2 months...I don't think it is ever too soon, but I heard the longer you wait, the harder it can be to find a christening outfit.

I'm Catholic, and my church requires that you take a class about baptizing the baby. We took the class already and picked a date for the baptism. I think it is easier to get is done before the baby comes, but there were people in the class, who were at various stages of pregnancy & some who have already given birth.

Re: What is the earliest you can baptize baby?
I say after the 8 week mark. Usually baptisms have a party (sometimes large, sometimes small) afterwards so you just want to be cleared by the dr to take the baby out in public. To be safe on that, I wouldn't plan it earlier than 8 weeks.

Re: What is the earliest you can baptize baby?
Our baptism was planned when DS was 5 weeks old. Since all of our family is OOT and we needed to book everything before he was born so everybody could get plane tickets and hotels. DS was born two weeks early, so he ended up being 7 weeks old.

Re: What is the earliest you can baptize baby?
Depends on your church and your preference. I've been to christenings for babies who were 6 weeks old to a year old.

Like another poster mentioned a lot has to do with the parish. I would go down in person and find out. Our parish does christening the first 4 Sundays of the month and limit it to 5 children sometimes 6 if there are twins. My friends parish does every other sunday. She booked it early also (she is due in 2 weeks) because the second Sunday of the month they are doing falls on her daughter's birthday.
I booked the christening about a month ago because we knew we wanted June and also because we wanted live music for the celebration so I had to work with that too. I am due any minute and the baby will be christened June 19th (father's day).

I was baptized at 1 month. We did DD's when she was 3 months. We will probably do this baby's at 2-3 months.

Our baby will be between 2 and 3 months old, depending when she is born. She is due mid-June and we are having the baptism At the end of August.
