Good Idea, Bad idea poll
I'm doing a pagan naming ceremony for my daughter, hopefully this summer. Money is tight, but for a favor I wanted to give out a cook book with recipes sent in by the guest. However their a bit $$$ and I would hate not to do this. I came up with a cheaper alternative, making CD cook books that could be used on a computer. Have that along with a few pics of the baby. But this is something I could do a lot cheaper than the alternative. Do you think it'll be tacky? Or maybe something I shouldn't use because a lot of seniors aren't computer savvy? Please share thoughts and or ideas. Thanks!

Re: Good Idea, Bad idea poll
I think it's a great idea, but really only useful for a younger/technical crowd... I know any of my parent's crowd would NOT use or keep a CD, so I'd say "no" to that.
What if you scale down from a cookbook ($$$$$ to print) to a few select recipes that you can print up beautifully, and leave maybe one at each place setting??? That way you're still getting the "gist" of the favor without the printing costs, kwim??
There might even be a better favor we can think of -- something tied into your daughter's name? Or a theme for the party itself??

Re: Good Idea, Bad idea poll
I was thinking just doing a BBQ at a park and maybe some pasta catered. Her name means victory. Her bedroom theme is stars and moons. I have a cake being made shaped like a moon and little cup cakes with stars on them. For the cook book or cd I was gonna use a blue stary backing with a pic of my daughter.
the only people that don't know how to use a computer who are coming are my husbands gandparents. He has all four of them still around. Maybe make them a hard cover print and give out CDs for the rest? It would only be two cook books if I did that. Still a bad idea?

Re: Good Idea, Bad idea poll
I think if you type them out, add a few pics, and print them at Staples it would be a cute favor...
You could fold the paper in 1/2 - cutting down on paper/printing costs.
You could even use each persons "recipe cards" if they are putting them on a card. More personal since its in everyones handwritting.
Personally, I like to cook but don't think i'd go to a cd to find a recipe.

Re: Good Idea, Bad idea poll
I think it's a good idea....I would definitely look at the CD...just to see what recipes are on it. If there was anything I liked, I would then print it out if possible.
I wouldn't probably go back to the CD b/c it is a little inconvenient, but I would definitely look at it once to see whats on there...

thank you! I wasn't expecting it to be a daily use, but something the families and friends could share.

I would never use a CD to find a recipe, but maybe you could buy photo albums at the Dollar Tree and print out the recipes and put them in the album. That would be very inexpensive, but everyone would probably use it more. You could put pics of DD between recipes.

Re: Good Idea, Bad idea poll
Sine everyone is so techi, why not setup a free website with the recipes, a little card with her pic and the address of the website.
Maybe setup a blogspot or something, very easy to do and easy to edit.
I hate CDs I copy all data we need from them to servers online. We have one anyway for business.

Re: Good Idea, Bad idea poll
I don't even have a CD drive on my laptop anymore.
Honestly (and I'm quite a cook/baker), I'd probably stick it in a pile when I got home and never look at it. If you set up a website with all the recipes and gave out a card with the link, though, I'd be much more likely to look at it and use it. Talk about saving on costs!!
It's not super easy, but you could print recipes out yourself on 4x6 cards. What about choosing a cookie recipe or two or three that you really love and baking them and putting them in small bags and attaching a printout of those recipes to it and giving that out as favors? Still very homemade and personal (not to mention delicious) and a little more practical. You could just buy a pack of 4x6 cards and send them through your printer to print the recipes out on and punch a hole in the corner and attach them to the bags of cookies with a ribbon.

nawww... I'm not gonna just give out a few recipes. The whole point of the idea is that its created by all our friends and family.
