Re: anybody not choosing to BF?
I choose not to bf my dd and it was a great decision I had a wonderful recovery after a horrifying emergency c-section I bonded with her wonderfully and so did dh. There isn't much support.out there for.those of us who decide not to bf I was criticized and ridiculed for quite some time. I'm here if you need support please fm me

Re: anybody not choosing to BF?
I was unable to for my first DD, and this time was advised not to even attempt it for this DD by my dr. I agree that there is not much support for people that do not BF from the beginning.

Re: anybody not choosing to BF?
I'm not planning on it. I've also been very disappointed at the lack of info available, even simple things like how to avoid engorgement, how many bottles I'll need and even how many ounces to feed at first!

Re: anybody not choosing to BF?
i am quite honestly on the fence. a part of me feels like i must try it because its better for the baby, you will save money and best of all it incinerates calories. on the other hand i think o the pain, leaking, swelling, energy, time and most of all trying to pump at work (as a teacher) when i go back at 6-8 weeks. i truly dont know what to do. thankfull i still have a good amount of time to think.

Re: anybody not choosing to BF?
I'm not going to, and I've been treated like a second class citizen for it! I don't feel comfortable with it, and have doubts I'd be able to anyways, since I am very small chested and they didn't grow with pregnancy. Also, I'm not too sure I believe all the hype. Neither DH nor myself were, because 25-30 years ago it wasn't such a big thing, and we're honestly like the two smartest people I know, so I don't buy the whole higher IQ thing. We were also extremely healthy babies, so I'm not inclined to believe that there's any ill effects on the babies health.
Plus, I'm going to be going back to work, and I don't want to pump, I get freaked by those documentaries of industrial dairy farms , so I want to make sure there's no confusion for the baby between going from being BF to formula or bottles, so she'll be getting formula from bottles right from the start. I'm super excited to use the Earth's Best formula, it's dairy based, organic, has DHA in it, and in my mind, will be the perfect choice for the diet plan I have for the baby.
Maybe I have a chip on my shoulder about it, but it WOULD be nice to be supported on it, especially because I have well thought out and rational reasons for my decision, and I've just about had it with the tude I get when it comes up in convo, not like it's anyone's business to ask anyways!

My OB gave me some really great advice for engagement that worked amazing the first time around that k will be doing again. - invest in 3 great sports bras 1 size small so its snug. - get breast shields to protect the bra and absorb any leakage. - get a 4 inch wide ace bandage from pharmacy. -bring all of these with you to the hospital.
As soon as your up and moving ( after I took ky first shower) I put the sports bra on with the shields and then take the ace wrap and have dh wrap you as tight as possible the pressure really helps relieve pain and helps avoid the Engorgement feeling. Also I had to take benadryl while in the hospital for a rash but I swear that helped also dry things up. I stayed wrapped as long as I could stand it and then when I got home only did it at night. I never once was engorged, and swear I only leaked 4 days. Was the best advice hope this helped.
as far as oz you should feed the nurses will help you its usually and oz or2 every 2 hrs or so give or take. I always just fed her when she seemed hungry. I'd always offer if she was crying.
bottles a ton!!! Lol we would pre mix the night ones and put in fridge before bed that way we could sleep walk and get it. she fed every 3-4 hrs so we needed 4-5 pre made so I ended up running out and buying more bottles but don't buy them too much in advance it took us a while to find one she liked we ended up with Dr browns they're amazing.
please fm me if you have any questions I'd love to help in anyway I can!

Re: anybody not choosing to BF?
I said i would 'try' to BF. And I tried. It landed my baby back in the hospital 5 days PP for 3 more days, with severe jaundice, because my milk hadnt come in much, and she wasnt getting enough fluids, not pooping and raising her bilirubin levels through the roof. She started on formula during that time to help her, and I began to pump. I BF, pumped and supplemented with formula. Honestly, BF was just not for me, and I agree, you can certainly be chastised for it.
Having DH help with the feedings, while I was suffering with the blues and hormones raging, it really was the best option for us to just phase out the breast milk. I could not produce the amount of milk this child wanted. I also need to take a break everyday and leave the house for a few hours. I was going stir crazy being tied to that couch, glider, bed trying to BF/pump.
I dried up really quick, just 2-3 days of pain, but in the end, it really was best for us and I am much happier with formula.

Re: anybody not choosing to BF?
Im not. I was planning on breast feeding along with formula for a few weeks. But when I tried to bf it was so frustrating for my baby and for me, so I quit and have been doing strictly formula. I had slight guilt but it has worked out so much better bc DH can help me so much more.

I happen to agree with you! I am going to try to BF BUT DH and I were NOT bf and we are both fine, Smart, good immune systems etc.
25-30 yrs ago it was not in fashion and my friends and family are all thriving.
Interestingly, I do plan on BFing, my MIL and DH's aunt think I am nuts and should do formula Oh and MIL is a NURSE and she thinks it is silly for me to BF.
SO no matter what you choose someone's got to knock it.
IMO people should do what works for THEM and THEIR baby. I could careless what anyone else thinks
