At what age...

Would you let yours kids go down the block to play? We know everyone in our neighborhood pretty well. Most of the kids DD's age (8) ride their bikes up and down the block together. I haven't let her go on her own yet. At what age would you/did you let them do stuff like that?

Re: At what age...

It depends on how busy the block is.

I live on a very quiet dead end street. My 7 year old and 9 year old are allowed to walk down the dead end side - but I do not allow them to go past the corner on the non- dead end side.

I do not let them ride their bikes or play b-ball on the streets unless I am out there watching.

But.. I'm willing to admit that maybe I'm a little over protective!!

When my girls were that age they were allowed to ride their bikes up and down the block....

Re: At what age...

Thanks guys. We are on a dead end too, but there are a couple people who live on the dead end that drive very fast down to the end. I guess I'll give her a chance to go next weekend.

Re: At what age...

I let my 6 1/2 year old ride his bike to the end of our dead end and back, but there are only 4 houses deep on the block.

I have also asked the neighbors to slow down and be cautious when they are pulling out of their driveways since some have tendecny to just back out without much care since they assume there are no cars coming since we are on a dead end.

I just casually and politely asked that they be extra cautious backing out if they see the kids outside.
