Anyone have TMJ?
What did you do for it? The dentist says there isn't much besides not chewing gum and that maybe a night guard could help but besides that he said surgery is my only other option. Mine is bad, I mean every time I open my mouth my jaw pops.

the guard at night made a HUGE difference for me!!! i wore one for just about 3 years straight & it helped immensely. I still have issues - but nowhere near as bad as i did.
things to note:
1. try and avoid caffeine. i'm not a doctor - but this always stuck with me & is something my doctor told me...i may have the colors wrong too... we have red & white blood cells that run through our entire body....well, they run through your jaw too. Caffeine, in a way, suffocates one of them...meaning that they can't flow through the jaw, as they should. cutting out caffeine should make a difference for you within a couple of days.
2. there are 'exercises'. i'll see if i can find them for you.. they help a LOT... it's just a matter of putting pressure on the right spots, while opening and closing your mouth. They may seem silly, but boy do they help. ANY time i'm having an issue, i'll do them and feel better very quickly...

Thanks so much! I never heard of no caffeine and I def drink a lot of it. Where did you get the night guard from?

i had to go see a TMJ specialist. i want to say he was near Good Sam - let me see if i can find him (though for me - it was like 15 years ago)...so he may not be around anymore...

Why can't you get the TMJ "testing" done at your dentist's office ( it take up to 30 minutes). We treat TMJ patients in my office.

I dont chew gum and saw my chiropractor for it for about 6 months. That was about a year ago now and I rarely have issues, every once in a while she re-adjusts it for me.

stay away from tough breads, bagels etc. when i feel a flare up coming on, i try to focus on keeping my jaw relaxed, i really think tension makes it sooo much worse! i stick with softer foods for a few days and it normally prevents a bad flare up!
