Outdoor Runners

How early to you run in the summer?

I started my run at 9:30 today and I couldn't believe how hot it was. I've done most of my running during the winter and early spring, so this heat really threw me for a loop! I had to stop after two miles and drink an entire bottle of water before continuing and even then I was REALLY slow.

I'm a teacher so I'll soon have lots of time in the mornings. I thought I could start my runs at 8 or 9--is that going to be too late to beat the heat?

TIA!

Re: Outdoor Runners

I run at 6:30 now and will continue to that in the summer. I am also a teacher but it's worth setting the alarm to beat the heat.

Re: Outdoor Runners

I went out at that time too the other day and it was a little too hot. Last summer I tried to finish my runs by 8:00 or 8:30am. I was training for the NYC Marathon (and will be again this summer), so for my long runs I had to get up at 5:30, otherwise the heat was unbearable for 2 plus hours!

Re: Outdoor Runners

I try to get out between 5:30 and 6. 7 if it's a shorter run.

I want to be finished before 9, with the exception of some really long runs (16+) - they might run longer.

Re: Outdoor Runners

I've been doing my runs in the morning between 5:30 and 6AM. I can't stand running in the heat and that's the only time I feel comfortable.

Re: Outdoor Runners

I do very short runs, but, I go out by 6:15AM and home by 7 or so (maybe a bit earlier).

I did a run/walk event yesterday that started at 9:45AM and it was hot!!
It was all through the community and it was GREAT that a lot of the residents were out asking us if we wanted a "spray" and spraying us with their hoses! They were also handing out water and some had sprinklers going too!
It was definitley a hot one!

5:30 for me. I work full time, so going later is not really an option if I want to get the mileage I want in, then be home in time to get the kids and myself ready. I hate running in the heat, so it works for me anyway.
