Fustrated Over Food! *I'm Back!!*

DH and I are going for a week in Jamacia starting this week. I'm so angry at his as he's a food person and he was reading the list of restaurants to me and reading the menus and such.

It's making me so fustrated to know that almost everything they have is either something that I can't have or fried...I'm about to cry thinking about dieting on this trip.

I don't want to gain too much (I'm thinking that I might end up doing just that) on the week that we'll be there but I'm just so fustrated atm and trying to stick to what I need to do in order to lose the weight. I need to lose 28 more pounds to make my final goal of 100lbs lost.

Wow, well congrats on only being 28 pounds away from your goal. What you have already lost is amazing!! You should post before and after pictures for encouragement.

What I suggest is not to get upset about it. Try to stick to your diet as much as you can but if there is something you really want, or no other options, order the not so great item and just try to really portion yourself.

Re: Fustrated Over Food!

Congratulations on AMAZING progress! A true inspiration!

I know how you feel as far as being frustrated or nervous about food on your vacation. I'm not going on vacation but I am feeling the anxiety about family parties and bbqs and plans that I already made with my husband. I actually posted something about this the other night. We planned a dinner out tonight with Friends and last minute my MIL called to invite us for a BBQ tomorrow. I am feeling very out of control and nervous about it but decided to enjoy my dinner tonight and do the best I can tomorrow.

I am trying to remind myself that I have to live too. That I can't let my desire to lose weight or be fit get in the way of me having other healthy aspects in my life. I agree witht he previous poster and think that trying to make the best choices you can while still enjoying yourself is the best plan.

One cheat meal, or one week of inconsistent eating won't erase all of your hard work even though it might seem like it. Hang in there!!

And remember, most restaurants will be more than happy to make you dishes without sauce, butter, etc

Re: Fustrated Over Food!

You can always ask for something to be a special order.

Also, try to fill up on a big salad, or fruits and veggies.

I remember the resorts and cruises I've been on had a lot of this stuff.......this is just not the stuff that is easy to go for.

Re: Fustrated Over Food!

Try to do a very sensible breakfast & lunch and then you can be allowing at dinner and dessert. Fruit & yogurt for breakfast or an egg white omelet with veggies & toast. Salad for lunch, dressing on the side. I bet then you won't feel so guilty to have something a little over the top for dinner & you won't see a tremendous weight gain.

Re: Fustrated Over Food!

Enjoy your vacation.

Seriously. Enjoy it.

Try to make some smarter choices (fruits, steamed veggies, salads with dressing on side, egg white omelets etc) but allow yourself to live a little too! Do you really think you'll be able to eat 3500 extra calories a day (1lb lost is about 3500cals)? That would put you at the max weight gain of 1lb a day. that's a lot of food and probably unrealistic. If you've come far enough to lose 75lbs chances are you probably can't eat that much anymore
without getting sick to your stomach....

You've lost around 75lbs. That is a MAJOR accomplishment. BTDT (and doing again UGH), it's NOT easy. But, if you don't allow yourself to live and enjoy your vacation/life you could potentially set yourself up to fail long term (BTDT too!). I managed to keep my weight off for years by following some easy tips (my current problem was I felt that pregnancy = free for all. OOps LOL)

- Eat only until you're full. Don't gorge yourself.

- Eat when you're hungry, not because the food is there. Bring some protein bars with you if need be.

- Stay hydrated. Water, water, water.

- If you want something decadent? HAVE IT. If it's a dessert, get it with something like a fruit plate and have a couple bites or after a full meal (don't "save room" for dessert, this way if you're already full, you can only eat a bite or two).

- If it's a meal you wouldn't normally have, swap an item if you can: ie, burger and fries? Have the burger and a side of steamed veggies. I try to eat the veggies and a salad first and then the "bad" part of the meal.

- If you have a bad day or meal, it does not affect tomorrow.

It's all about balance and finding yours. Find what works for you. If need be, bring protein bars or other shelf stable things to snack on.

And enjoy your vacation, your accomplishments and looking great on the beaches of Jamaica 75lbs lighter!!!! CELEBRATE!

Try not to be tempted by the huge buffet breakfasts, thats what always suckers me in.

What about grilled fish for dinner? Thats lowfat. Its an island, the must be lots of fresh local seafood.
Good Luck & most importantly ENJOY yourself & time with Hubby!

Re: Fustrated Over Food!

Well the good news is that there was a fitness room at the resort that I was at. DH and I (if we didn't do other forms of excercise) worked out for 45 minutes per day while we were there.

After the week in Jamaica, we spent another week at our timeshare in PA. Which was good since you can cook your own food, it was not bad but their fitness room was undergoing renovations so I wasn't too thrilled about not getting in some treadmil or bike time.

All in all I only gained 6 lbs back which I know may be a lot for some, but for me it wasn't too bad considering. I'm back on my horse and I'm going to get back going on what I know I need to do.

Thanks again all for the support Chat Icon

Re: Fustrated Over Food! *I'm Back!!*

That's exactly what DH said as well when I told him. He always tells me it's not how long it takes to get to the goal, just as long as the goal is achieved that's all that matters.

Great Job, 6 pounds isn't a lot at all and if you try to lose it right away it will probably come off quickly!!

I give you so much credit for spending 45 minutes at the gym while on vacation! I should do the same in August... Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon
