Habitat for Humanity [with a before & after of me]

Last year's Habitat for Humanity build, 30 pounds ago:

Today's build:

It's not an earth-shattering difference but I haven't allowed many pictures to be taken of me in the past year or so, or while I've been losing weight. I can almost see a collar bone which has been hidden for about five years. Chat Icon

Anyway, Habitat has builds specifically for women and they also do classes at Lowes for women too. They teach things like framing, sheetrock, roofing, etc. It was quite a workout today, lifting plywood to the roof, hammering, etc. Last year, we did sheetrock and I learned so much.

It's a great cause, exercise, a learning experience, you meet and help out some really great people and there's chapters in Nassau and Suffolk and multiple builds going on, so chances are they need help somewhere, all the time.

Re: Habitat for Humanity [with a before & after of me]

Thank you so much!! I still have 40 pounds to go to get back to wedding weight, where I was happiest. I always tend to downplay but I admit it, I like this picture comparison. Chat Icon

As far as the volunteering goes, it's something I missed doing for too many years. I became the charity coordinator for my employer and every year, we give more and do more. It's so bad right now for charities, donations and volunteers are drastically down, with the economy being what it is.

Things like this build are unique in that it's not like writing a check and not knowing how the money is spent or where it goes. You're an integral part of the actual work. I've always preferred that form of charity and Habitat has become my favorite. Chat Icon

OMG, that's AWESOME!! BOTH of them!! You look great, but more importantly is that you FEEL great! ...and i think that's really cool that they teach women how to do those things, i think its important for women to be able to do things for themselves.

Congratulations again on all your hard work, you look great and you do it the right way, you made a life change & you’ll keep it off because of that!
