Re: interview questions

Some of the questions that I feel are a constant:

- a question describing your classroom management techniques

- a question describing how to deal with students at different intelligence levels (differentiated instruction)

- a question on how to address students who learn differently (visual, audio, kinesthetic, etc)

Good Luck!!

Re: interview questions

I actually interviewed candidates for a teaching job in my department last week. It was me, another teacher, and our department chair.

We were most interested in having the candidates tell about prior experiences. We'd ask them to describe a typical 40 minute lesson. We asked them about a specific instance in which a child was misbehaving or acting inappropriately, and what he/she did about it. We asked them to tell us about a time when they collaborated with other colleagues on a lesson or on an after-school activity. Stuff like that.

Good luck!

I totally agree with the previous posters.

Also, you may want to check out the district's website. Sometimes they will mention initiatives they have undertaken in the district (like Teacher's College). If you are not familiar with the initiative you could look it up before the interview.

I had something like this happen on one of my first interviews 11 years ago during the interview. I turned it around and had them describe the program. Then gave my opinion of it. You can always look to turn around a hard question to your advantage.

Re: interview questions

What are your weaknesses?

Give an example of a tough situation that you handled well.

How does your past experience relate to this position?

What do you know about our school? Why are you interested in teaching here?

What sports would you be able to coach? What clubs would you be willing to supervise?

How would you handle an irate parent?

What is you disciplinary philosophy?

How/when/in what situations do you involve parents?

How old are you? (Yes, someone really asked me this. The interviewer followed it up with a compliment, so it was ultimately ok. But be prepared to be asked stuff that's not kosher).

Re: interview questions

(I know you went on the interview already....I hope it went well! Just figured some others might be interviewing too)

I think you'll get a lot of questions that can be taken from the new teacher evaluation rubric. The rubric is centered around threee components:
1.) Data to show student growth
2.) Teacher effectiveness in the classroom (lesson planning, PLTs, management, etc)
3.) Duties outside the classroom

Our school asked questions regarding the three criteria. My principal was BIG on data and big on responsibilities outside the classroom.

Good luck to anyone interviewing!
