low weight gain
i can not believe i am even typing this. my whole life the goal was not to gain weight and now, when i need it, i seem to be behind what a damn irony i am 19w5 days and i am up 6 pounds at max. I did lose 4 pounds between 16 and 17 weeks due to sever fibroid pain and not being able to eat i am worried baby does not have much space there. When we did level 2, it looked like the baby was squeezed there. I asked tech, she said, there is not much but not little space there go figure.
anyone else?

Re: low weight gain
I had weight loss surgery in 2002 and lost a lot of weight. I have maintained the loss for all these years and now I am 21 wks pregnant. To date, I have gained 3 lbs, Dr told me to gain between 25-30. I feel so far behind. Going to see dr on thu, so I will see what she says then about my weight gain. But it does feel strange that all my life I was told to lose weight. Now I got the ok to gain some and I just can't.

Re: low weight gain
When I was pregnant with DD, I was slightly above my normal weight and I actually lost weight during the first 20 weeks. My OB never mentioned anything to me because the baby was growing nicely. I started to gain weight around 22 weeks and gained 20 lbs total. If your OB isn't concerned, and you're eating healthy (and keeping it down) I think you're okay

Re: low weight gain
I wouldn't worry about it - your doctor will tell you when/if it's a problem.
I was in ridiculous shape when I got pregnant, and I hadn't gained a single pound until my 20 week appt where I had gained a whopping 1 pound and the dr wasnt concerned. Baby was growing - and fast! - and that's all that matters. Baby will make room for itself, don't worry about it being squished (I felt the same way as you, dr reassured me it was all ok).
At 32 weeks, I've gained about 18-20 pounds and baby is gigantic and growing well. EVeryone gains at different rates - hang in there, the weight will come, haha :)

Re: low weight gain
I wouldn't worry about it unless your OB says something. My last pregnancy I gained 13lbs total and DS was born a healthy 7lbs 7oz.

Re: low weight gain
some people just don't gain. I had extra weight before I got pg, but I'm now full term and still down 3lbs. At last estimate, my baby is between 8 1/2 and 9 lbs.
With my first DS, I gained 4 lbs and he was 7lbs 14oz.

Re: low weight gain
I gained 7lbs with DD1 and she was born at 8lbs.
With DD2 I gained about 12lbs.
I am not overweight to begin with.
The baby takes what he/she needs from you... dont worry!

Re: low weight gain
Shorty, did having the extra weight make it difficult for you to get pregnant? I ask because my dr said that if I possibly get off 20 lbs, my fertility might come back. And that if I do get it off, that I have to find a way not to gain any weight/very little weight during the pregnancy. What was your trick/strategy? Were you seeing a nutritionist? I am seriously considering one.

Re: low weight gain
my dr said for every inch over 5 feet you should weight 100 + 5lbs. so I think you might have enough weight for the baby.
I was 5'3 and 95lbs. my dr said I was under weight. now at a day shy of 20 weeks I'm up 11lbs. I thought that was way to much but he said its fine because I was under weight to begin with, but even if I wasn't he wouldn't be concerned.
I think your body does what it needs to. Some people gain more then others, and some gain less. its something that is tough to control, so I wouldn't really worry about it

Re: low weight gain
If your OB isn't concerned try not to worry. Every body is different and as long as the baby is growing to the doctor's satisfaction you'll be fine!

Re: low weight gain
i didnt gain a single pound until 24 weeks and then only gained 16 my entire pregnancy! dont worry about it! as long as the baby is measuring normal, there are no issues. there are moms on this board who gained literally nothing

Re: low weight gain
I was worried about my low weight gain too (which I never though would happen since I spent most of my life trying to control my weight). It didn't help that people around me were telling me that I was not gaining enough, that I looked too small and maybe I should stop working out (which I was not doing excessively BTW). I was a healthy weight before getting pregnant and was consistently at the lowest end of the range that my midwife told me I should gain in between visits. My doctor wasn't and isn't worried so I decided that I'm not worrying anymore since is growing right on target. Like everyone else said, your doctor will tell you if it becomes an issue.

Re: low weight gain
So long as the baby is growing don't worry about it! Although I was overweight to begin with, I was down 15 lbs from the day I got pregnant to the day I gave birth. I was told I was expected to gain at the end, but just never did...and I certainly wasn't starving myself once I was told to gain weight! Baby just takes what it needs from you, be thankful!!
