New lens!
Just wanted to say thank you to everyone who recommended the 50mm lens!!! I just got it today and I'm loving it. I've been playing since I got home! I got a polarizing filter, too, though I haven't photographed anything where I can see a big difference. Anyway, I won't bore you with all the pictures I've taken but just one, b/c she's awfully cute and not afraid of this lens for some reason! She hated the other lens!

yea the 50MM is a workhorse depending on the F-stop of course but I am sure you got the 1.4 or 1.8. Its great when you get a hang of opening it up and getting shallow depth of field.
The one thing i always love are prime (fixed) lenses when I invest in faster lenses I plan on only getting primes and stick with my one zoom. Just better quality overall.

Yupp, I got the 1.8. It definitely takes some getting used to, I keep trying to zoom in or out but I'm getting the hang of it!

you convinced me to get one Jill... i just ordered it... i also got an accessory kit too... i might need an entire room just for all my camera stuff lol

I just noticed this thread and thought I'd join in! I recently got a 50mm 1.8 and LOVE it! I went to the Food and Wine show in Atlantic City the last weekend in July and took some great shots! My friend was a vendor there so the only pics I took were of her booth.

I am looking for a new lens. I love taking pictures and with a baby on the way - I want to get a new lens for my Nikon 3100. I want a zoom lens - is there anything special I should be looking for? Thanks for your help!
