How do I get definition??

I want abs!!! lol.

I have a flat stomach. I can feel muscle in there. But how do I get definition? Anyone know of any fabulous ab workouts? What does your ab routine look like (how long/how many days a week)?

I don't eat a lot of sodium or junk and follow a relatively healthy diet (with some fun calories thrown in here and there Chat Icon )

Please elaborate! If I remember from pictures on here, you have great abs! What kinds of things should we incorporate in our diet?

Im not trying to knock WW. I did WW for a long time but I never saw the results I wanted. No food can be "0" points in my book. Fruit and veggies are VERy healthy and good for you but they still have calories, carbs, protein. etc. If you eat those til the cows come home because they are 0 point foods then you have more calories that you are eating and not "counting" in. Now i odnt know if there is a maximum amount to still count as "0" points or not but even if you ate 3 strawberries those 3 strawberrie still have sugar and calories in them. So all of the 0 point things add up.

Also, I found on WW i ate way to much whole wheat pasta and bread. Don't get me wrong, I eat breads now, but they are different from what I was eating on WW.

I think WW is great for losing a lot of weight but as far as muscle tone, definition and body building the rules and way of eating on WW are not the best. Just my opinion.

Again, Im not trying to offend any WW people by any means. This is just what I have found.

Also- I only have one day that I have a cheat meal. It's been tough over the summer with bbqs but i make the best choices I have to stay within my macros and caloric intake for the day. It's tough but for me, it's worht it. It also helps that my DH follows this too.

I think that carbs really detract from having amazingly defined abs.

I have decent definition but will never give my bagels up.

Hmmm yes and no. I know plenty of body builders that eat brown rice, sweet potato, oats and other "good carbs" and they have great abs. Perhaps bagels and bread are different as they are not as "complex" as the other carbs I mentioned.

I agree that its diet. I don't do abs at all & I don't do cardio & I have defined abs. I don’t eat processed foods which eliminates a lot of simple carbs. The way I eat is similar to the paleo diet.

THIS just inspired me to get back on track with Paleo. I still cook "paleo" meals and I've been hitting the gym regularly but my diet (mainly lunch) has fallen off track. I'm so good with dinner and snacks but at work, I fell way off track.

Re: How do I get definition??

I agree that diet is a huge part of great abs but since I started doing pilates I see a lot more definition everywhere but especially in my abs. Another thing that is important to remember is that genetics plays a role and you have to find what works best for your body...and not to Chat Icon but I agree with Lauren while WW is a great program NO food is free of macronutrients or calories except maybe iceberg lettuceChat Icon

Re: How do I get definition??

Thank you so much for all your helpful comments! Lauren I am going to FM you my email address.

Although I do WW, I also try to incoporate everything I have learned about fruits/veggies, macronutrients, etc. (I sit and read up on all this stuff in my free time- I'm a little strange lol). As far as fruit, I only have usually have 1-2 servings per day. Usually a banana and very rarely some other sort of fruit.

Thank you for the info about the carbs too. I've heard there are good carbs and bad carbs? Does anyone know what are the best things to eat and how many carbs I should aim for a day? I'm already ready to notebook this thread!

OMG finally somebody agrees with me!! I am a trainer as well and I don't understand the logic behind these zero point foods!!!!!

And abs are made in the kitchen!!! That is very true. Having abs takes tons of work and near perfect eating!!!

Re: How do I get definition??

Lauren you are awesome. That's all! Chat Icon Thank you for the emails!!!

On a side note, according to Weight Watchers, although the fruits and veggies count as 0 points, they already figured in those calories into each member's daily point allotment. For example, lets say you need 1400 calories per day and get 29 pts per day. Assume the 29 pts translates to 1100 calories. The extra 300 calories would be the fruit (so you wouldn't have to count it). I'm just making up numbers, but does that make sense? So WW doesn't work where someone eats all their daily calories PLUS gets free fruits and veggies. The fruits and veggie calories are calculated in already.

While WW did help me lose a lot of weight (and it helps so many people) it doesn't take into account the factors required to create muscle and definition- which is why I'm thankful I have you ladies to help me out!! I have also worked with a trainer in the past and it takes a bunch of planning but it is possible to incorporate WW with calculating/counting macronutrients (It's just sooo much work!!). This is why I've only done one or the other. For the longest time I did WW. Right before my wedding I worked with a trainer/nutrionist and I really toned up. Lately I've been trying to incorporate what I know about the two.

I really appreciate all the help I get on this board. There are so many knowledgeable people here!
