Toddlers & Mosquito Bite Remedies
HELP!!!!
Em has at least 20 HUGE, WELT LIKE bites on her legs, arms, hands, KNUCKLE, above her eyebrow...
she was eaten alive at the new sitters' house. (needless to say she will never go outdoors again without bug spray on)....
she slept HORRIBLY last night, tossing and turning, asking me to 'scratch itch'.... she woke up VERY early (for her) this morning and begged me to help, scratch itch, hysterical crying. we had aveeno bath powder stuff, so we gave her a 20 or so minute bath in that....and then gave her some benadryl (and she FINALLY fell asleep in the car).
I called the ped - only thing they suggested was keeping up with the benadryl, cool compresses and hydrocortisone cream.
i picked up a hydrocortisone cream WITH a cooling agent in it....but are there any 'home remedies' or anything that can help my baby (she's two, but will always be my baby)????
I was told a good one for adults, windex - but i'm not so sure i should use that on Em...
thanks in advance!!!

and tylenol. Reduces the swelling and pain that comes with it.
For AJ its Claritin orally, then the benedryl on the bite itself, or hydrocortisone, rotated back and forth with cool press. Loose to no clothing because anything that rubs it would itch it. Kept her nails as short as I could so she wouldn’t cause too much damage – yet another reason for the Tylenol. I used the pink stuff too. Anything and everything to make her comfortable.

Re: Toddlers & Mosquito Bite Remedies
I rub deodorant on my dd's. It works for me, and she says it works for her.

Re: Toddlers & Mosquito Bite Remedies
I use the benedryl itch stopping gel. I really try not to use cortisone if I can avoid it, DS's dermatologist told me it can thin and bleach the skin.

Re: Toddlers & Mosquito Bite Remedies
DS had the same thing. I first tried the benadryl cream and it wasn't really helping him. I felt so bad for him I broke down and just put cortizone on him and that helped. MIL said that toothpaste works and I also heard lettuce works. I haven't tried either. Good luck. It's so sad especially when he calls for lotion as he is scratching.

Re: Toddlers & Mosquito Bite Remedies
Benedryl helps alot with the itching. For the swelling my MIL had told me to use Vicks Vapor rub on the bites and believe it or not it actually works for DD.

Re: Toddlers & Mosquito Bite Remedies
hydrocortisone is safe on a 2 year old, I use it on my DS occasionally and he's 18m.

Re: Toddlers & Mosquito Bite Remedies
Toothpaste!
It sounds crazy, but a dot of toothpaste on each bite really helps.. It kills the itching, shrinks the welt, and smells minty fresh.
I didn't know banana peel worked on bug bites, but it healed DH's poison ivy super fast.

Do you just rub the inside of the banana peel on the bite?
My DS has bad reactions to mosquito bites (as do I) and he just got 3 new bites tonight + 1 this morning. Lots of scratching. He had one earlier this week above his eye and his whole eye area including his eyelid was swollen.
I've been using cortisone cream. I have a rx one that 2.5% strength. I put some on right away on a bite he got this morning and it didin't swell as much. Coincidence maybe but it def helped.

Re: Toddlers & Mo squito Bite Remedies
Benadryl, calamine lotion, benadryl gel (but I don't know if you can use that WITH oral benadryl - best to check), oatmeal baths, tylenol to reduce swelling/redness, solarcaine w/ aloe. All should help, but not together, obviously.
