Those with electric stoves
Do you have the flat top stove? I just went to PC Richard and most of the electric stoves were flat top.

Yes. I do believe all electric stoves have flat surfaces. Never seen any other type.

Re: Those with electric stoves
Not all electric stoves have flat tops. Some have coils. Example of Coils.
The flat tops are probably more popular now, though. I have had both (though the coils were some time ago). I prefer the look of the flat top, even though I sometimes find it a pain to clean. I have a flat top now and like it. I miss my gas range, though! One of my pots oddly doesn't work on the flat top because it has a curved edge around the bottom. All of my other pots work with no problem. (FTR, I do not have an induction cooktop - just a regular flat electric range.)

Re: Those with electric stoves
My parents had a townhome in Fla with a flat top, and I remember the flat top was hard to clean. We have our stove with the coils from 12 years ago. I didn't know that flat top was mostly what was out there until I looked today.

We have an old stove, with coils.
You can still buy them new. Just found this image on Sears' site:

I currently have a flat top.
I've had a coil one, though.
I love the flat top. So easy to clean!

Re: Those with electric stoves
I have a flat top electric stove (want a gas stove so bad, but will have to wait until we re-do the kitchen down the road).
I agree that the flat top is a pain to clean. They sell special cleaners (Cooktop Magic, for example), but you still need to use a TON of elbow grease to get it clean. If you have a pot boil over or something drips, especially if it has a high sugar content, it gets burned onto the surface. And this sounds dumb, but sometimes it's hard to see if I have the pot or pan centered on the burner (because the top is dark glass and the outline of the burner is also dark).
But as far as aesthetics, I think the flat top is a much more modern look. For that reason, if I had to buy an electric stove again, I would still opt for the flat top versus the more retro coils.

Re: Those with electric stoves
I have a painfully old stovetop with coils. Will definitely switch to the flat top when we redo the kitchen. They sell specific cleaners for them that work great (my parents have one).

I have one of those plastic scrapers that pampered chef gives you and that works well also!

We have a Samsung Stainless Steel electric stove with a black glass flat top and I hate it - I miss my Coil top stove.

Re: Those with electric stoves
Wow...I guess since I haven't gone stove shopping in years, I was unaware that the flat tops were the way to go. Thanks for the responses.
