IPad help

So I'm thinking about getting my son an I Pad and I need help. Do I just buy one and download the apps, how does it work? Am I gonna know how to just use it or should I be talking to someone about this? Is there something else better? I'm lost. His speech teacher thinks he's not ready because he stims off the Dynovox buttons but I think if I sat with him and just did basic questions he'd get it. It's so hard because nothing is working, he's 7 and non verbal and I can't communicate with my son. My heart breaks when he crys and I can't figure it outChat Icon
We've been using PECS pictures for years and now that I've taped them down and put them in a clear sheet in a book he can't tap them. But carrying around the book is hard and really he doesn't have interest in it.

Re: IPad help

LOVE LOVE LOVE the iPad... apple offers classes on how to use it... its very simple...

you need iTunes installed on your computer but you can still download apps straight from the iPad.

we taught my then 2 year old how to use the iPod Touch... sometimes he will stim off it, but for the most part he is pretty good. I got the iPad last year and DS who was 3 (hes 4 now) LOVES it...

AJ is verbal, but there are some GREAT programs... Tap To Talk is one of them... AJ used it before he started to use sentences.

the iPod Touch works just as well... and is much easier to carry around... you will be surprised on how fast they learn

I use the IPad with one of my students. We have a schedule and social story program on there that is great. He is working on spelling so we have a program for that. Look into getting trials of the apps first. This way you can try them out before to see if they are good.
