'cuz I'm curious... Chat Icon

Even if the real demands from Occupy Wall St. are not clear to you, and even if you may not agree with every single aspect of it - are you the slightest in support of this movement? or happy that some people are taking a stand?

I feel no one can come right out and say if they are, for fear of retribution (either by friends/family or their employers)

there is no "other" option on the poll.

so, a poll. Chat Icon

Re: Since I feel like no one can come out and say it.. here's a poll about the protest

I'm in support of people protesting that corporations should be forced to pay the same taxes that we pay. No need for CEOs to be given $90 mil bonuses, NO ONE works that hard. It's ridiculous.

I am VERY MUCH AGAINST people protesting stupid stuff, like that they shouldn't have to pay back their student loans because they can't get a job now. Yeah okay, no one forced you to go to school. Chat Icon (And yes that is actually what some people are out there protesting).

Re: Since I feel like no one can come out and say it.. here's a poll about the protest

I'm openly in support of the right to protest.

I fully believe that OWS has begun to cause some serious thought and has started to shed light on some big issues.

I am under no illusions that every single person there is there with good intent. I don't think they have the answers to what's wrong or and I don't think the wealthiest 1% are all evil and selfish ne'er do wells looking to squash the middle class.

But I think there is a great dialogue beginning and I'm excited to see where it goes. And I am THRILLED that there are people out there willing to fight the good fight.

agreed. although I DO wonder if it's more of a tongue-in-cheek demand (the student loan request), as a way of saying, "why can't I get a pass if a CEO can make so much?" kwim? I was thinking about that before....maybe the silly signs are meant to show the sheer ridiculousness of how the 1% has it? IDK.

Re: Since I feel like no one can come out and say it.. here's a poll about the protest

I have said before I'm in support of it. I have no fear of retribution.

I think some people are off their rocker with their demands (forgiving student loans) I don't think there is a cohesive message yet, but people are becoming more organized. The American Revolution started out with a small group of po'd protestors dumping a bunch of tea into a harbor because they felt wronged.

I think the tax breaks corps get are ridiculous and are hurting us as a nation.

Our infrastructure needs major work, and it takes money to rebuild roads, bridges, sewers, water lines, schools etc. That money could come from corporate taxes and taxing the 1% to pay their fare share. Unfortunately, corruption in both politics and labor gets in the way of these projects being completed properly and in a timely manner (see Boston's Big Dig for a prime example of this)

We have taught an entire generation of children that are now young adults that it is 'beneath them' to work in the trades. That they have to go to college and get a degree, at any cost. Even if the cost of that education exceeds their future earning potential. We have failed to prepare them for the real world. We have failed to teach them proper work ethics.

I think the state of healthcare in this country is pathetic and deplorable. Insurers are cutting more and more benefits and charging higher premiums while raking in record profits.

We, the people, are no longer represented. Our "representatives" are only serving the interests of the lobbyists and corporate sponsors who woo them.

I'm with Jeannie, too! I don't feel like I can be 100% in support when I don't yet feel like there's a cohesive message, but I like where the dialogue is going, and I like that people are starting to stand united with one another.

I openly support OWS. I understand and agree with others that say their messages are sometimes confused and unorganized. It's true, but I feel that's because there is just so much wrong and people are ANGRY about it and this is the way they are getting it out. However, I do NOT agree with anyone who does not protest peacefully.

anything that causes some people to WAKE THE FLUCK UP is awesome to me.

even if you don't agree with what they're demanding...if it causes anyone to look up some of these issues- corporations getting tax refunds, the federal reserve, the loopholes, the outsourcing, the lack of trickle down...

if it causes us to look at just one of those issues and really say "hey man, what the eff" well then it's a-ok with me.

I would love for some strong people to fashion themselves as spokespeople and carve out what they'd really like to see and do, not the "pay my loans" or "buy me a ham sandwich" but REAL issues.

rock on PEACEFUL protesters.

Actually, I don't think it hurts them at all. If people who HAVE money and are comfortable can see that the system is flucked, then it's not about people whining because they want a handout, it's because ANYONE can see that the system is effed.

I have friends who have been down there.. Doctors, Lawyers, professors, and when i told someone this, she said "Why would doctors, lawyers and professors need to protest?" Completely missing the point. The system is obviously not working.

One of the reasons I think we've allowed it to get bad in this country is that people have been too comfortable. People had jobs, and could afford consumer goods and as long as we had that we were complacent, and some people still have that attitude.

Shouldn't Occupy Wall Street really be Occupy Washington DC, after all, Wall Street is only playing by the rules that have been put in place by our elected officials and lawmakers...protesting Wall Street and banks isn't going to accomplish anything. They won't change their ways unless D.C. tells them they have to. And since they each have their hands in each other's pockets, sadly, nothing will change.

I am "other". I don't know all the details of what the protest is about, and from what I have heard I am confused. And right now I don't have the time or energy to care enough to learn more about it... so I am indifferent.
