strep B positive
so on top of all my wonderful issues, strep B came back positive. i will be having a c section and was wondering how your ob dealt with this issue. I was told i will be given antibiotics via IV before C section.

Re: strep B positive
Okay dont panic LOL i dont have experience with this BUT its nothing to get too crazy over I believe IF your water breaks before your c section you just have to make sure you go directly to the hospital so they can give you the iv. You will be fine and baby will be fine. I think one of the girls on here just posted about her birth story and she also tested postive and everything was absolutely fine

Re: strep B positive
I was positive too. I had a vaginal birth and was put on antibiotics once I got there. I needed to be on them for at least 4 hours (if not, they might have given the baby antiobiotics or closely monitored her).
My labor progressed quickly, and right after the 4 hours they were going to break my water because I was fully dilated, and it broke on it's own and I had her an hour later.
So it worked out good. She was completely fine.
It's usually not a big deal at all. It's more of a concern if the baby is a premie, or if you have a fever during labor.
I was stressed about it, but realized I worried over nothing!
You have a planned labor, so you will have plenty of time on the antibiotics. Good luck!

Me too! My midwife told me I was Strep B+ and when I asked if that would effect anything, she actually laughed at me! :) I was given antib's before I delivered, and that was that. I hope everything works out for you!

Re: strep B positive
I freaked myself out when I found out I had it too. It's really not that big of a deal. I had a vaginal and my dr just admitted me at 4cm just to play it safe, and started me on IV.

I went into labor 15 days early & my Strep B test results weren't in yet, so they hooked my up to the antibiotic just in case I needed it. It's been 2 years, but I'm pretty sure that I was told the same thing as the poster above - that I needed to be on it for a certain amount of time or else they might have needed to give my son antibiotics after he was born. Luckily I had plenty of time & that wasn't needed - it really wasn't a big deal

Re: strep B positive
This test is done at the end of pregnancy right before your due.
I tested positive with my first 2 pregnancy's and had c-sections, and was put on antibiotic before I had my c and had no problems! This time my Dr said I can skip it, so I'm happy about that. Its usually more for vaginal births since the baby can get it passing threw the birth canal.
