What should I buy to save all of my pics from my old computer?
I need to desperately buy a new computer. But it has about 1700 pictures saved on it. What do I need to buy that can easily save and store all of them? TIA

USB hard drive.

It will plug into any computer, so it's easy to move around, it stores a lot of stuff. If you get a USB-powered one, you only need the drive and one cable to attach to the PC. No need for a power cord. I have a 1TB drive to carry around, plus a 1.5TB drive that I keep in my office "permanently" plugged into my PC.

You can always upload them to Google Picasa, this way you can have access to them at any computer and it is saved on their server, so you will never have to worry about losing your pictures!

It's only got 1GB of storage for free... I've got 60GB+, and I just bought a new camera that takes larger file size pics. 1GB nowadays is nothing. You can rent more space if you need it. 20GB is $5 a year, so it's cheap to get more storage, and the increments are $5/20GB as well. 20 GB ($5.00 USD per year) 80 GB ($20.00 USD per year) 200 GB ($50.00 USD per year) 400 GB ($100.00 USD per year) 1 TB ($256.00 USD per year)

Get a 16 gig thumb drive. Its an external drive, but just really small. Since there are no moving parts its less likely to fail.

You have a few options.
- external hard drive (but those do fail and you will need backup to that backup) - online storage (probably the most reliable long term) - saving on CDs/DVDs
