High Blood Pressure
Crashing, but I saw a post about high blood pressure and it got me thinking...I have 2 kids already and started to have issues with my blood pressure in the past 8 months...I'm on a medication now that controls it well, but is not compatible with pregnancy, etc. I am going to start thinking about having another next summer, but I want to go on a medication that is safe soon so that I can try to get my pressure steady and managed well before I get pregnant.
So the real questions are:Does anyone have high blood pressure (from before pregnancy), what are you on, and were you able to keep it controlled during your pregnancy so far?

I had high BP 2 yrs before pregnancy. I went on Aldomet since it is safe during pregnancy. High risk doc said I can go on labaterol until end of 2nd trimester.
I am currently on Aldomet, but my bp was going up and I am only in 1st trimester. Docs doubled my dose and hopefully this does the trick.

I did not have it before pregnancy. I have it with pregnancy, pregnancy induced hypertension. It is being controlled with labetalol.

same here. i believe labetalol is OK during pregnancy because i know a few people who took it for developing pre-e while they were pregnant.

I had HBP before my pregnancy and my cardio put me on Aldomet because it is safe in pregnancy. I was on a low dose and never had to increase it during my pregnancy.

I am TTC my 2nd child and my blood pressure scares me because I know i have high blood pressure but I am not on meds at this point and reading these posts is making me feel better. I was under the notion that If i have high blood pressure during pregnancy then I may need to be on bed rest and nothing could really be done.
When I was at the end of my first pregnancy i was borderline per-eclampsia and when I gave birth they put me on magnesium because my blood pressure wouldn't drop.
Are blood pressure issues a concern with a lot of women??

Amazingly enough, there are BP meds that aren't safe for the father to be on when you are TTC! My DH takes 2 BP meds and discussed this with his primary about a year before we started to TTC so that he could switch his meds. It is something important to look into!
