Anyone had shingles
the rash is gone, the pain is awful..taking pain meds, topical patch. Just what I needed around Christmas...
Any other suggestions I should be doing, to ease the pain??? How long does all this last???? TIA

I had them 20+ years ago. Unfortunately the pain lasted on and off for years. Of course the inital pain subsided but totally gone...took a year or two at least. Nothing alleviated the pain for me.

I had shingles and it was awful. I actually developed post-herpetic Neuralgia which sounds like what you have. The pain is insane even though the shingles are gone because your nerves are damaged.
My doctor put me on cymbalta. It can be used for chronic pain. At first I was very afraid of taking an anti-depressant when I didn't have depression issues. My doctor convinced me it would help and let me tell you that it does.

DH had it in his eye and head. Awful. He was on Cymbalta for a while too.
Good news is that he rarely has pain now. This was about 2.5 years ago. He got most of his relief in about 6 months.
It was the scariest thing I ever saw.
