What do you leave out for santa?

Do you always leave his milk and cookies or do you spice it up from year to year.

Also at what age did you start doing it? DD is 2 and I don’t think she will grasp the concept yet.

we do milk and cookies for santa and carrots for his reindeer ;)

I started at around 2 and it only made him more excited the following year when he truly got it

Re: What do you leave out for santa?

We are starting this year! DD is 2 and DS is 5wks. We are making magic reindeer food (oats w/glitter) to sprinkle outside, and we are leaving celery since reindeer can't eat carrots! Santa will get a cookie and a piece of fudge with a small glass of milk. My German DH insists that one year Santa will get a homemade pretzel and beer....

We leave milk and cookies, but since Santa isn't particular, we leave whatever cookies we happen to have.

This what I did when I was a kid, including the carrots for the reindeer.

Maybe I'll start this now with DS who is 26 months. He just might get it.

He seems to have no problem grasping the concept of the elf since he calls "elf" every time he does something he considers good and "elf"-worthyChat Icon

Re: What do you leave out for santa?

this year DS is way too young to get it so I'm kind of glad I have more time to get myself together and really plan out next years christmas and what traditions we will be sticking with. The plan is to leave milk and cookies for Santa, carrots and grass for the reindeer. We will also celebrate the epiphany or "Three Kings Day" in this household so for that we will leave a box full of grass for the camels

Re: What do you leave out for santa?

Haven't done it with my kids yet, but when I was a kid, we left the same thing every year: cookies and milk for Santa, carrots for the reindeer, and an apple for Rudolph to keep his nose red. And my sister is 21 and still does it every year Chat Icon

Last year DD was a little young to really care but this year, now that she's 3, we're going to leave out milk and cookies for Santa and reindeer food on the front lawn. Chat Icon

Edit - I have a special plate and mug that says Milk for Santa and Cookies for Santa.

Re: What do you leave out for santa?

my DH requested yesterday that we do this. because our 9.5 week old DD -- while brilliant -- will really care Chat Icon

he requested cookies and a beer. i told him he can have the spiked egg nog. at least it looks like milk (if we're doing this i will at least take a picture for her scrapbook that her Nana is making).

when I was little we used to leave out a hung of imported parmagiano cheese. sadly, I never thought that was odd until I mentioned it in front of some adults. Chat Icon

Re: What do you leave out for santa?

DD (4yo) asked Santa specifically what he wanted and he said chocolate chip cookies, so I guess we will be baking some of those! Also leave out coffee (because DD thinks Santa could use the caffiene) and carrots for the reindeer.
