homework over Xmas break?
Is my kindergartener the only one who got homework over the break? I'm not talking about " count Xmas lights" or " read 20 mins a day" or something fun. Regular ole homework packet ( about 3-4 dittos a night, front and back), plus a reading response journal- given on Friday before break and due back Jan 3rd when they return. I wish she had given us parents a break

Re: homework over Xmas break?
We got a packet full that they didn't have to turn in. They do get hw every weekend though. It's too much.

Re: homework over Xmas break?
We got a very thick packet of "extra credit work" -- about 25-30 pages I would say. It is a review of everything they have done so far. We haven't touched it, and tomorrow is our last day to do it! I will probably sit down and have her do a few pages tomorrow at least. She's been coloring up a storm and doing other quiet work, and I just keep forgetting about the packet. I am fine with her not finishing it, but I would like her to do some of it!

Re: homework over Xmas break?
My second grader has never had homework during the break...or on weekends (except and occasional project) I am so grateful. I teach in NYC and we HAVE to give our students a packet. It stinks. Butwe gave them a really short one this year.

Re: homework over Xmas break?
DS is a 1st grader and has a packet of about 25 pages to do. He also got the same amount of work last year.

Re: homework over Xmas break?
Wow, we have never had homework on a break. That stinks! I would probably send it back with a note that we didn't have time. If they NEED kids to do schoolwork over breaks, maybe they should take less breaks

Re: homework over Xmas break?
NO HW for either kid and I am very happy. They didn't have HW either the week they had school before Christmas too. So it's been a nice break. Not looking forward to it again tomorrow night!

Re: homework over Xmas break?
That really stinks!! Where I teach, we are NOT ALLOWED to give homework over the weekend and over vacations (not that I want to!). FYI, I teach 1st grade, but this rule is school-wide (probably elementary district-wide, too, but I'm not 100% sure of that).
