Speech questions
DS is 26 months old and has been getting speech therapy since early September... He has about 20 words now.. And about 8-10 signs... He tries hard to say a word and most of the time I can understand what he is saying.. My Mom keeps telling me that he says a new word every day... I don't hear them. The ST has me write the new words he says in a book. But he must say them at least 3-4 times before it counts... Some times he will just repeat a word he hears. He never says it again. Yesterday she said he said "hockey". When I asked him to say it, he said "hohee"... He can't pronounce "c' or "ck"... My mom swears that he said it the right way.. I was in the next room and I didn't hear "hockey". She then writes the word down in his book. She will then tell the speech therapist that he can say these new words.. Today she said he said "santa"...He did not say Santa... I guess she wants to hear the words. But for her to tell the therapist these things is going overboard.. Should I say anything to her or just let it be? Thanks.

Re: Speech questions
I agree too. Maybe have her put a star next to the words she thinks she hears so the therapist can which are his true words and which may not be.

That is what I think too... I will have her write down what she hears and then let the therapist know... Thanks...

Re: Speech questions
If he is saying Hohee every time he sees hockey on tv that is a word. Its an approximation of the word but if it is the same word for the same thing every time, then it is a word. Obviously if he is not pronouncing it right I would notify the speech therapist. Why don't you just hide the book from your mother so she is not allowed to write anything in it?

He said Hohee 3 times for me the other night....But she swears he said "hockey"... He wasn't watching hockey but playing with a hockey stick. He hasn't said it since. I think she is desperate to hear what she wants. I put the book away yesterday. Thanks.
