Excessive barking help

Has anyone used any successful training methods to curb excessive barking?
My three-year-old cavalier king charles spaniel has become quite the barker. He has always barked if he heard something, which of course is good, but since I've had my DD (a year now), it's like he's gone off the deep end and barks at EVERYTHING. He adores her and is protective of her, so I think that's part of it. The littlest things set him off—he hears a plane, a truck on the next block, the clinging of a dish, if you say the word, "here." This morning he's barking at her birthday balloons, which have been in the house for 48 hours and he's been fine with them. It definitely has something to do with her because when she's not here, it's not nearly as bad.
Any advice?

Ha, if someone has the answer i'd love to know too. I have 3 dogs that bark if a fly goes by the house and If a dog walks by, forget it, it's insane lol

I've tried those little machines that give off a loud pitch that they can only hear--did not work, they ignored it.
