I guess technically it's Disney but not Disney World...
Disney's Hilton Head Island Resort 7/6 -7/14
I so love it here!!! If you have DVC you should consider it if you want a more relaxing vacation!!!
I love the Hilton Head Resort AND Vero Beach - they're great when I need a non-disney yet still disney getaway.
I want to go to VB & HH one day. I feel so locked into Disney b/c of the DVC but couldn't care less about the theme parks.

They're great resorts. DH actually uses the HH one a lot to go golfing with his buddies.

Could you do a detailed trip report when you get back. This is where we are contemplating staying - since they have the Royal (princess) rooms. I would love to hear what you think of it. Are you doing ME or renting a car? I'm concerned about the buses because we won't have a car.
I sure can. IDK if we will gte the princess rooms, though plan to request. They are not all finished yet.
We are driving down, so we will have our own car.

Well the princess rooms aren't going to be ready until I think I read March 10th or so - I hear they are moving anyone booked in them before that date to deluxes - with most going to the Poly! Sounds like they are doing some nice pixie dust since the rooms aren't ready as promised. I would honestly just love a nice review of the hotel. We might end up with a standard room but I'm trying to convince DH to go with the royal ones.

Re: Official Disney Vacation Countdown thread!
Okay we booked - but hoping for free dining since they have had it for the past 7 years at that time. We are going late August POR Royal Guest rooms!
I hope some of you who are going to POR will come back and give detailed trip reports.
Can I ask someone to check and see if they sell some items in the Counter service location or gift shop of POR for me?

Re: Official Disney Vacation Countdown thread!
OMG First TImers!!! Buy The UNOfficial Guide.
That's an AWESOME week to go. Early September is VERY uncrowded. All 1's and 2's (out of 10) on the crowd calendar. The only thing is that it will be HOT.
Mousesavers.com is generally the best for discounts. You should also go online at DIsney.go.com and create a trip and save it. Order a planning DVD and Maps. It's cool stuff but the real reason for this is that once you're registered you can get PIN codes discounts, which are unpublished personal discounts.
If you can go for more than the 4 days, maybe add the Sunday since Sunday night will be weekday, not weekend rate at the hotels. Our shortest trip was 4 nights, but I would really try to do more, especially with a 3 year old you won't be able to be a commando and there is SO much more to see than there was 20 years ago.
I think you've picked a great week. Next you need to choose a hotel.
Since you're on a budget and your son is young, I would suggest a Value resort. Without discounts at that time of year, the values will be around $105, but a pin code can bring it into the $60-80 range. A Moderate would be about $80 more than that p/n.
The Value Resorts are All Star Movies, All Star Music, All Star Sports, Pop Century and the new Art of Animation.
The All Stars are all exactly the same. The only thing that differs is theming. Movies has the most recognizable theming with a Toy Story area.
I personally prefer Pop Century. The icons are less recognizable to kids, but the resort layout is better so everything is more centralized, and they don't share buses (as of now..rumor has it they may share with AoA, but I kind of doubt it). I've stayed at Music 3x and Pop 2x.
Art of Animation will open in phases this year. I don't know if the regular rooms (vs. suites) will be open by September.
As far as tickets go, depending on your arrival and departure times, I'd recommend buying park hoppers for either your entire stay, or one day less. Some people choose to explore downtown Disney, or to do a resort character meal on the first or last day.
You can get tickets cheaper through Undercover Tourist using the Mousesavers.com discount.
The other thing you need to think about is the Dining Plan. It's possible you'll get a free dining offer for September. Some people find the Dining Plan to be worthwhile just for peace of mind, knowing everything is pre-paid, but it is a LOT of food. If you get the dining plan, you need a package and would have to buy the tickets through Disney. You'd also be subject to package rules on your booking.
Once you're set with that, the next decisions are where to eat, and which park to visit per day, which I'd be happy to make suggestions about.
Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party wll be going on when you're there. It's pretty expensive ($60 per adult) but I find it's worth it and really enjoy it. Not sure about a 3 y/o. Maybe some parents can comment. You can also plan to do this on a day you're spending at DTD since you won't need separate park admission, so you can put the money you'd have spent on park admission that day toward the party.
If you have 4 days with PH I'd do MK- 1.5 days EPCOT - 1 day DHS - 1 AK - .5
For me, I like to have 2 days each at MK at EPCOT if possible. I also split my days and nights to maximize opportunities to see nighttime entertainment.
With a 3 year old you're going to want to get to the parks at opening, tour until lunch, and then head back to the hotel for a nap/swim break during the hottest part of the day

Do you mean Fantasmic! ? I haven't heard of any closures on Illuminations.
That would be huge if they're closing down 3 out of 4 nighttime shows at one time. I hope not.
