Re: Would you attend 2 birthday parties a week apart for the same family?

Is this DS #2 1st Birthday?
If so, I would do a big party for him and then maybe just immediate family for cake on DS #1's birthday.
Then following years do joint, when it's not a "milestone" birthday.
The problem is that 3yo DS has friends. We are inviting his entire preschool class and playmates from a few mom's clubs I am in. We already sent invitations out and hired an entertainer. RSVPs have already started coming in.
DH thinks we should have a separate family birthday party for DS#2 so DS#2 would get the smaller party.
We are doing a pro photo shoot with cake smash for DS#2. We didn't do that for DS#1.
I just feel so bad for DS#2. He is such a good baby and is always getting shafted.
Then maybe just have a friend party for DS #1.? And not invite family. That's what I'm doing for DDs 2nd birthday.
My immediate family will come over on her birthday for cake to celebrate.

My 1st and my 3rd will be a week apart.
We will be having joint parties. My first will also have a friends only party.
I will do a big First Birthday though only for my 3rd.

Re: Would you attend 2 birthday parties a week apart for the same family?
Honestly, I think if you make them both feel special it doesn't matter if it's a joint party. When I was a kid I always had a joint bday party with my cousin who we were close with because our bdays were 3 days apart, there is no way my whole family would get together twice. I honestly always thought it was so fun, it never bothered me.
I think you should take both kids to the party store, let them each pick out the theme they like and then decorate the house like crazy in both themes and make them both feel special. As long as they both have balloons, banners, cakes, and gifts they will be happy kids! And if all you ever do is joint parties it's all they will know. A party is a party, they will have fun either way.
Personally, I wouldn't ask people to give up two Saturdays in a row for bday parties. Although everyone will probably go they will also probably be annoyed about it too. I think if done right a joint party will be awesome!

Re: Would you attend 2 birthday parties a week apart for the same family?
My kiddos were both born in June (one on the 5th and one on the 28th) a year apart. We did a joint birthday party last year when DS turned 1 and DD turned 2. We're doing a joint party again this year... and probably the year after that too. They are not going to know the difference at this young age.

Re: Would you attend 2 birthday parties a week apart for the same family?
I think since the older one's bday invites went out already and he has friends coming etc., I'd prefer to do a second separate party for the 1st birthday party. I would try to have it separate by 2 weeks though if you can. If not, then whoever can be there and wants to, will be.

Re: Would you attend 2 birthday parties a week apart for the same family?
I have been to 2 parties 2 weeks apart with my own DS' party the weekend in between. I was not thrilled but part of that was bc the parties were an hour away.
Had the parties been 2 consecutive weekends I might have had more of a problem with it. Maybe try skipping a weekend.
Also, I get what you are saying about your DS2. Since it's his 1st bday, I would do something big for him, with family and friends, and something smaller for DS1.
After this year though I would probably do just 1 party until they get a little older.

I think I may have 2 separate tables.
DS#1 is obsessed with pokemon. I will make sure he has his pokemon balloons and favors.
I wanted to do a dr seuss them for DS#2. Maybe I will have a separate table, like DR seuss dessert table and pokemon food table.

The good thing is DS#2 doesn't know he's getting shafted....yet.
For the first birthday, I'd go to both. Next year, I might be annoyed but its not like my social calendar is very full.
