pulling up on / climbing crib

I didn't think I'd have to worry about this for a while...but tonight DS started lifting his leg as he was standing pulled up on the crib rail...he was trying to use his leg to climb up any way he could. He also put his arm over the crib rail and was on his tippie toes trying to get further out.

What the heck do I do??? I DO NOT want to hear the sound of a baby hitting the floor from climbing out of his crib. We're really worried about this.

Re: pulling up on / climbing crib

My only suggestion is to never leave anything (stuffed animal, blanket) in the crib that can give him height. DS is pretty tall and he is standing and trying to climb the crib. He hasn't figured it out yet (he is one). And when he does figure it out it is time for a toddler bed. So for now I give you Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon cause I know how nerve wrecking it can be.

I read to put pillows or blankets on the floor next to the crib in case. He's probably just figuring out he can lift his leg, hopefully for your well being hahaha.

No bumpers or anything in the crib.

Dd has been walking since 9 months. We thought she would have climes out but she hasn't, yet. She puts her leg up but hasn't yet and she's a crazy baby. So hopefully he's just testing out those limbs. Haha

Re: pulling up on / climbing crib

what about sticking legs out of the crib? I get so scared he's going to twist or break something when he sticks his legs out and then falls backwards.

Re: pulling up on / climbing crib

My son is only 7.5 months...I was in the room watching the monitor when DH went in to "try his hand" at getting him to bed.

I saw DS on his tippie toes and heard DH laughing and saying "holy... what the...hahaha" when DH came into our bedroom he asked if I saw and I told him "ehh kind of" the monitor cut off at the shoulders so I couldn't see what was going on above that) he said " he was reaching with his arms over the rail and getting on his tippie toes to try to lean over the rail" what I did see myself on the monitor was that when leaning over the rail wasn't getting him the results he wanted he started lifting one leg putting it up against the rail, to the side against the headboard. it basically looked like he was trying to figure out how to get his footing to get closer to DH who was standing in front of the crib. I know he's strong, but I doubt he's strong enough to pull himself that far out of the crib...I just am afraid to underestimate him and one day be proven wrong.

That's scary. I would not underestimate him. I would watch on the monitor closely until he's asleep and intervene if you think his going to get hurt. Like I said above I would put something soft on the floor in case he does fall out.
