stage 3 baby food?
I gave DS some tonight and it didn't go over too well...he was gagging and ultimately threw it up...should I keep trying so he gets used to it or just hold off and try again at a later date?
Ped doesn't want to start table foods until 9 mos so I figured I would introduce him to a thicker puree with little chunks but he is not diggin' it.

Re: stage 3 baby food?
He might not be ready for the texture. I would slowly mix it in to other things that he likes. That's what I had to do with liv. She is still the same way at 16 months. Takes a little time to get used to different textures. Good luck!

Re: stage 3 baby food?
They get confused with the puree and the chunks of food in one spoonful. I skipped it totally. DS did the same thing. Try steamed carrots. I started DS on table food at 9 months and he was fine with it..

Re: stage 3 baby food?
Ds1 I went from stage 2 to table food. By 9m he was about 90% on table food.
Ds2 just started to be interested in table food at 9m. Before that I tried stage twice. He didn't like it either time so i stopped. He would take two bites then just refuse to eat it. Now at 10m he eats some table food but isn't ready for the complete switch so i do give time stage sometimes and he eats it no problem.
If your DS doesn't seem to like it now I would stick to the stage 2...when he starts table food he may be more willing to try it or you may just be able to skip it completely.

Re: stage 3 baby food?
Both of my kids had problems with the chunky pieces in the stage 3 foods. However, they were fine when presented with pea sized pieces of food on its own. I think the mixture of textures was confusing. I steamed apples and gave them that chopped up finely. I let them cool down to almost cold. Also carrots worked well too.

You can try different brands. DD likes Happy Baby's stage 3 but not Sprout for some reason. They texture thing can definitely throw them off though.

Re: stage 3 baby food?
Keep trying and dont make a big deal of it if he gags or throws up, just clean it up and briefly reassure. Babies will often do that that with new textures. Keep at it.
We did stage 3's, but a lot of people skip it. However, DC may gag on table foods too. The right reaction can make or break you, so try not to freak out and just keep presenting it.

Re: stage 3 baby food?
I started DD on some stage 3 foods and the same thing happened. She gagged a bunch and thew it up.
Last night and today she did eat the stage 3 food I gave her with a lot less gagging.
Not sure whether I will continue with the stage 3 or just go to table food. She seems to like a couple of the stage 3s from different brands and I may try that until I decide to go for table food.
Maybe that's the best bet for you, to do some trial and error with different brands?

Same here. Oddly my kids had the same reaction with stage 3 but were fine with table foods. So I didnt even bother with it.

Re: stage 3 baby food?
stage 3 is tough for most kids, really sends mixed messages texture wise. my son almost always gagged to the point of vomit with all stage 3's (aka, we didnt try for long)

We skipped Stage 3, DD hated it and wouldn't touch it. We went right to table foods at 6 months.

Re: stage 3 baby food?
DS would thorw up most sprout stage 3 foods but would do really well with Plum stage three (they call them training meals). But at almost one he refuses so be spoon fed so it is table food only. It is eve hard to give him yogurt.
