Those that DECORATE well...

Where do you get your inspiration?

I ask because I am not good at decorating, but would love to improve.

Are there certain websites you use?

Watching the decorating shows is not really something I want to do.

well i wont say i ever thought i was on some professional level, lol but recently ive been told by 3 people that my living room looks like a decorator did it so hey...

i get my inspiration from various stores that concentrate on one specific look and are totally emersed in it. since its so one look, I am able to get the best of that style and see what i like about it or not.

but to be honest, the things that people have said to me about my home is that it is so very me and that they love that it is so eclectic while all being pulled together as one look. we have a few things from various vacations we have gone on- now we aim to get artwork or something to hang on the wall or a sculpture of some type. We choose whatever we like but we stick to colors that we know will fit in the room we are planning to put the item in..

so its kind of true what they say when its said that if you choose all pieces that you absolutely love, it will really come together. and i know that most people choose what they love but i think the key is to look around A LOT to really find your unique style rather than just choosing what you love from a specific store. I always go into little shops in town and on travels- they have such different things than the major furniture stores. Thats how I really figured out what things I like and what things I dont.

I also work in real estate so it has helped a lot that I get to see others peoples decorating in lots of homes.
