If you have a toddler in FT daycare

Do you ever call the center to check in on your DD or DS?

I haven't in a very long time, but this morning my DD was REALLY unhappy about going to school.

She had been so out of sorts every day last week when we picked her up from daycare.

Over the weekend she returned to her normal happy self.

I feel like just calling to check in on her, but I have so many problems with the owner of this center, if I call, I'm expecting a call from the owner later on saying that no one else ever calls during the day, so why are we?

UGH! I'm just worried about her today, having a Mommy moment.

Re: If you have a toddler in FT daycare

Yes... of course I call. I'm leaving my child in their care. If I feel something is off that day or I just feel like calling than I do.
The daycare has No issues with me calling and the teacher (if she has some time) will talk to me for a bit.
I usually try during their nap time so I know they have a moment to talk.
I have 2 boys in daycare. My 2 yr old and 8 month old. I actually usually call a couple of times a week.

Call. Who cares what anyone thinks...trust your mommy instinct. My DD is not in daycare but I surely text/call her nanny 1-2 times a day, every day. I know it's not the same and you don't want to seem like a nag, but you could just say DD had a rough morning and you just want to see how she is doing. They should understand that (but again I have no experience with daycare).

Re: If you have a toddler in FT daycare

I don't unless she has been sick or something, BUT they have NO problem with me calling.
They encourage it.
You can call 14 times a day if you want- it's YOUR child. YOU are paying THEM -and paying them good money- to care for your child.
You have every right to call, to come by, etc.
If they give you a hard time about that, I would think twice about staying with them.

I had pretty much the same response typed out and saw this! The owner/director should never make you feel that way, I wouldn't stay at a place like that.

Yes, if I feel that had a rough night/morning and things seemed off I would never hesitate to call for a second. My daycare provider always tells me to call and not to give it a second thought.

Re: If you have a toddler in FT daycare

We use a certified in home daycare that is very laid back.

I don't usually call, but if something was up I would text the owner or she would text me with how she is doing.

DS is has been in daycare since hes 11 weeks and he's now 2.5 years old. i've called maybe a total of 10 times for the reasons Linda mentioned. If there's a problem they'll call me.

Re: If you have a toddler in FT daycare

Yepp. I call if DS had a rough morning or night, if I forgot to tell the teacher something, etc. As PP mentionned, YOU are paying THEM. If the owner gives you a problem about calling I not-so-gently remind her of that fact. To be honest, I'm not so sure I would continue to send my child to a place where I felt uncomofrtable with the staff/owner.

Re: If you have a toddler in FT daycare

If the owner is telling you that "other parents don't call" you should either tell her to go scratch or switch daycares. You should have the right to call AND stop in at any point at all, unannounced, when your child is there. If you are concerned about your child, call them. Maybe she was out of sorts last week because something was up at the daycare? Or, maybe she was coming down with something. Whatever the reason, CALL!

Re: If you have a toddler in FT daycare

I would call. I have a newborn in daycare and they usually send me updates via email on the days they know I'm not feeling the greatest about him beign there that day.

They encourage me to call if I am ever feeling nervous about anything.
