If you have a toddler & infant in daycare...how do you...

Take them in and out?

DD#2 is 5 months and I have been using the infant carrier to take her in and out. It's getting really heavy and I feel like bag lady walking in every day. 2 backpacks, a carseat and Elizabeth holding my other hand......I'm afraid to carry the baby in bc with all the stuff I have to carry, I may drop her! How do you do it?

Should I try the baby bjorn? It just seems like a PITA too!

Any suggestions? Thanks!

do you have an umbrella or small portable stroller to keep in the car? this way you can put the little one from the car seat to the stroller and wheel her in.

I'm not really helpful because I walk to day care with my kids in the double stroller... Elizabeth walks up the stairs herself and I carry the bags and Luke...

In the summer when I drove I would use the snap and go (bag in the basket) and Elizabeth would hold the stroller as we walked.

I carry DS now, and his bag.

DD wears her backback. I usually park at the quick drop off area, get Claire first, out her bag on her, walk around to the curbside and get Owen and his bag and off we go.

You could use the snap and go or maybe put the 2 bags in 1 large tote to carry in?

just a thought.... why don't schools have someone "stationed" to wait outside to help the kids into the school. I assume a lot of parents have other small children in the car and it would be sooo much easier for a second hand to help.

I bet they would be tipped quite well also Chat Icon

I don't know how your place is set up. Mine, I just park as close to the door as possible (it's a school house with a private lot of land/parking lot)

When Colin was in the carseat (which was not too long b/c he started daycare at 7 months and was out of it shortly thereafter) I just got Ryan out and walked him to Colin's side, then had him hold on to my leg which I got Colin out and we walked in together

Now that Colin's out of the seat, Ryan comes out and I let him walk to the stoop and wait while I grab Colin (there is not traffic past my trunk - I wait til I get the spot closet to the door)

ETS: Can you do the kids first and run back to get the bags once they are in their rooms? Just carry Alexandra and hold E's hand?

Do you bring stuff for Elizabeth daily? I bring a load at the beginning of the week. Then the only thing I bring daily is Colin's bottle bag.

Re: If you have a toddler & infant in daycare...how do you...

I have to bring bottles/milk daily. I can't leave anything there (as far as bottles go). On Monday I bring the new sheets and any extra clothes if needed.

Alexandra has a regular sized backpack with her stuff in it and I wear that one. Elizabeth has a tiny backpack that sometimes she wears, but most times she picks it up, drops it an then tells me to carry it Chat Icon

The parking lot is in a fairly busing shopping center and there is no special drop off area. There is one handi-cap spot, but it's a huge pet peeve of mine when people park there to drop their kids off and I have never used it.

I like Katie's idea of having a helper! They should to that!! LOL

Before Alexandra started daycare, I used the snap and go when I brought Elizabeth in, but it was a total hassle getting it through the double doors.

I guess I just have to stop whining and suck it up. Maybe when Alexandra gets a little bigger I will carry her in. She just seems too small and wobbly still to carry her in my hip.

Thanks everyone!

Ok, I am the PRO at this. I bring 3 into daycare ages 1 and a half (twins) and 2 and a half into daycare alone everyday.....

I pull up, with the car locked, I run the bags in. I come back to the car, throw one twin in the stroller, then the other in the stroller. Finally I take big sister's hand and we go in together.

Once inside, I bring the kids to their classes and then go back for the bags.

That's exactly what I did when #2 and #3 were still in the carseats. I've been known to wear multiple back packs at once and also leave the stuff in the car drop the kids off and go out and get the stuff and vice versa at the end of the day.

My 'school' does this. Apparently its the Montessori way or something.. its kind of a strange thing to see. Like an assembly line. Cars roll up and kids are removed and taken to their class by their teachers/helpers. Parents are not to follow.

They do not encourage or recommend you park your car and bring your child in. As a matter of fact they specifically asked that we don't. If you want to walk your child in you have to arrive (and pay) for early care. We drop her off before the official start of the school day (8:30) so we walk AJ in, but she's only one.

I know that for now, if I am dropping AJ off alone, I take her in and leave everything except the keys in the car. (Altho once I left the keysChat Icon ) Drop her off then make another trip for her stuff. Chat Icon

Re: If you have a toddler & infant in daycare...how do you...

I would carry the car seat for a while until it got to heavy. I then would bring my snap and go in with me and transport DS that way. When he upgraded to a converible seat, I would carry him in and out. As soon as he was walking well, I made him walk in and out with me.
