Newly potty trained 2.5-3yr olds... do they go right when they wake up in the morning??

DD is 2y 7mo and has been fully potty trained almost a month now. She doesn't pee during the night and once or twice a week she will cry out to go potty in the middle of the night, but lately she doesn't want to go right when she gets up in the morning. I try but she stiffens up and doesn't want to, then about 30 mins-1 hour later she'll go a lot (either at home or at daycare). It's almost 12 hours of holding it and she doesn't have/want to go in the morning right away? Is this normal?

My DD and my niece were the exact same way at that age.

2 of my daughters were like that in the early stages of potty training.

Not sure how on earth they hold in the pee!

DD will be 3 April 16. She has been potty trained since the first week of January.
She rarely goes when she first wakes up. Sometimes doesn't pee for at least an hour after waking up. And she wakes up dry. I don't know how she does it.

My DS is 2 1/2 and has been trained for about a month. He holds it for at least an hour after he gets up. I dont know how he holds it, I have to go first thing when I wake up lol.

Ok so it's normal, yea she has no problem holding it but I get so nervous that she's going to pee in her car seat on the way to daycare!!

DS used to run to the bathroom in the morning. He also still had a drink at bed time. Now he can hold it (a year later - of being trained, he doesn't hold it for a year Chat Icon )

sash does this too-- but we try to make her go. I also try to make her go before we leave for school, but sometimes she just wants to go there instead. it's so frustrating when she refuses to go, but I know she has to.

DD is the same way. It takes her a little while to go to the bathroom in the morning after waking up dry. I am amazed at how long she can hold it eithout having an accident. We even consulted with her ped. Who was not concerned. At 2.5 she has incredible bladder control...on the flip side she won't go until 5seconds before she has to, so we're always rushing when it's time to go

DS sometimes wakes up in the middle of the night to pee, but usually waits until shortly after waking up in the morning.
