Bumpers
So it seems no bumpers at all is the recommendation for the crib. Is anyone using the breathable ones?

Re: Bumpers
i bought beautiful bumpers but i will not be using them.
any bumper- breathable, not breathable, or crib slat covers are not recommended by the nurses at my hospital.
when the babies are a bit older and the sids scare is gone, and if they start knocking their heads into the crib sides, I will probably put them on.
but while they are little babies, i will avoid anything at all.

Re: Bumpers
The AAP has recommended NO bumpers including breathable bumpers.
As a BTDT mom who didn't use any bumpers, I'll be honest - they are completely unnecessary. We never used them, never missed them. My baby never gave himself a concussion or got trapped and needed to be cut out of the slats of the crib or whatever else is the big fear or not using them. Babies will roll into the sides and bump themselves, but it's not like they're getting beat up by the cribs if there are no bumpers.

Re: Bumpers
I didn't use anything until DD could move around and stand on her own. At one point I went in there when she was sleeping and her head was pressed against her soft spot and left a dent there for a little bit. That freaked me out enough to put them up. I hated them, but it freaked me out because all I could think of was the crib slats pressing against her brain. (I know it wasn't...)
I won't put them in DS's crib, however I will play it by ear.
Right now they are in there for picture purposes. They will come out when he gets here.

Re: Bumpers
I got the bed set and will use that bumper when he is older but got the breathable one for when he does start using the crib.

Re: Bumpers
Just FYI, SIDS is still a problem for older babies. Also, a baby that can stand can use the bumpers as a boost to fall out of the crib. Lots of reasons not to use them at all.

Re: Bumpers
i use regular bumpers on my daughter and will use them with this baby as well.
i did swap for breathable once baby started rolling over, but then put regular bumpers back on. again, will do the same.
eta: the one time i had them off because DD vomitted on them, she got her leg caught in the slats. she freaked out and i did too, it took me a good min or two to finagle her leg out of there.
