Weight Worries
Some days, I don't think about my weight at all. But other days, like today, I get really upset about it!!
I have always been small, and have always been normal on the bmi charts. I know I am pregnant now not necessarily "fat", but I just feel so large! I am overweight on the bmi chart now- I have never been this big in my life or seen such numbers on the scale before and it's not a fun sensation.
I have gained about 14 pounds already, and I am only 23 weeks. DH loves to say "well youre just going to get bigger!".
I know the weight is necessary because I know I eat healthy. When I get hungry I try to fill up on raw fruits and vegetables, peanuts/cashews, greek yogurt, hummus, and other things like that. I do not eat a lot of snack foods (although, in the past week or two, I have been craving it more).
I guess it's just one of those days... but I really hate the scale right now and hate the mirror right now and hate how I feel. Having this hard large lump in my middle makes it so hard to sleep, to bend, to move, to do anything comfortably anymore.

Re: Weight Worries
gained 50lbs with my dd#1 and 51lbs with my dd#2....didn't intentionally decide to gain that amount of weight but it happened....i had big babies first was 9'2 and 21in and the second was 8'13 and 21in......i lost about 30lbs or so in the hospital before even going home and then dieted to lose the other 20ish so don't worry about weight now because whatever you gain is able to be lost when all is said and done.....just enjoy your pregnancy as much as possible and don't let the weight and body change stress you out

Re: Weight Worries
The traditional BMI calculation no longer applies to your pregnancy weight...you should only use that with your pre-pregnancy weight.
Preggo weight is completely different - some of it is another PERSON! Don't worry - your weight gain sounds completely normal and average.
I know it's easier to say than deal with how you feel sometimes, but embrace your pregnant weight! If you were small to begin with, you probably have the cutest bump and don't know it, and wearing fitted clothes would look so cute!!

Re: Weight Worries
I really thought this was going to be an issue for me, but I have been okay. You cannot focus on the scale. How are your tops fitting? I wear my non maternity sweatshirts and sweatpants. I am not gaining in other areas and I am sure you aren't either. It will come off!

Re: Weight Worries
The BMI chart does not apply to pregnant women!!!!!!
This is the one time in life you are not supposed to be worried about weight (unless your Dr say soemthing) ENJOY IT!!!!!!!!!
The weight comes off. And really there is nothing you can do about the weight gain other than tryign not to gain which is detrimental to the baby.

Just enjoy it. Enjoy eating a little bit more, enjoy your treats - your body is working hard and making a human being, be gentle with it - dont be so hard on yourself.
This is what your body was MADE to do, let it do its job. . .you can worry about losing the weight later!

Re: Weight Worries
I can relate, I have never worried about my weight, not even when I was pregnant with DD. I have always been thin, eat whatever I want , whenever I want and not gain weight. Even with DD I gained what I was "supposed to gain" each month , I gained weight and a little bump, but I still looked pretty thin and felt thin, I only went up a size or 2 in clothes, never had to wear maternity clothes, not even at 9 months. This pregnancy is a whole different story, I'm only 18 weeks and feel like a cow already, I have gained more weight than I did with DD at 18 weeks and my stomach is a lot bigger ( I didn't have a bump at all at 18 weeks with DD, I had THIS bump at 25 weeks with her) I feel like this bump will no longer be a bump but a mountain in a few weeks.
I can't help but worry that I'm getting too big, even though everyone tells me how "tiny" I am , including my dr and nurses ... one day I feel beautiful and next day I feel like a disgusting cow Try not to think about it too much, at least that's what I try to do .

You are supposed to gain weight!
With my first two, I didn't look at the scale - ever. I figured that the dr. would tell me if it was a problem - if not, I had enough other stuff to worry about! The weight does come off - maybe not the next day, but it will come off

Re: Weight Worries
I can totally relate to this post. Weight is just such an important issue to women that it's very hard to ignore the numbers on the scale.
As everybody said, though, it's totally normal and we need to focus on the fact that we NEED this weight to help support a healthy baby!
For me, I think (hope) it'll get a little easier when I look like i'm pregnant vs looking like i just ate too much.

ITA! Also, you gain a lot of weight for things other than the baby. Your blood volume increases a lot, water weight, placenta weighs a lot too. I'm sure you look adorable and you seem to be on track for weight gain, I would not worry too much at all! It sounds like you are eating very healthy and doing the right things so Im sure the weight will come off easy for you.

Re: Weight Worries
im 23 weeks and was 15lbs overweight when i got my bfp. ill be honest im loving the way i look. the fact that my tummy is getting big and round makes me so happy. it stinks that i cant sleep on my tummy but feeling her move makes it worth it. yeah im walking slower, cant really pick up things like before and it takes me a bit longer to do things but its all for my baby girl.
as long as your eating right drinking lots of water and give into your cravings every once in a while so you wont go crazy i say forget about that number. as long as youre doc says your ok dont stress about it.
Let's say your baby weighs in at 7 or 8 pounds at birth. That accounts for some of your pregnancy weight gain. But you certainly will gain more that 8 pounds during your pregnancy. Where does the rest of the weight go? Here's a sample breakdown:
Baby 7 to 8 pounds Larger breasts: 1 to 3 pounds Larger uterus: 2 pounds Placenta 1 1/2 pounds Amniotic fluid: 2 pounds Increased blood volume: 3 to 4 pounds Increased fluid volume: 3 to 4 pounds Fat stores: 6 to 8 pounds

Re: Weight Worries
Please try to not worry about the number. You have not gained that much yet! I gained 18 lbs in the first trimester.
52 lbs in total!! And I was eating healthy for the most part. Everyone's body is different and you will gain what you need for your baby. Again, as long as you're healthy, dont stress about this number! Pregnant women are beautiful! YOure not fat!!!
It will come off. I lost most right away. my DD is 7 months now and I'm 5 lbs from pre pregnancy.

Love that you posted this and love your great attitude on the weight gain. I felt the same way!!!!! I wore my pregnancy weight proudly. I think it's very unhealthy to to try to keep your weight down during this time and it scares me how many women obsess about it.

This is a time in your life where you should be gaining weight and be proud! I know it can be hard seeing that number go up, but it's just a number. You will lose it. Trying to not gain weight is not good for your or baby. ENJOY and eat healthy.
BMI calculations mean nothing when you're pregnant. My dr was never concerned that I gained 52 lbs.

Re: Weight Worries
Don't worry..it comes off The bulk of my baby weight just disappeared within days. The last 12 pounds took exercise and diet. It is totally manageable. Your body will gain what it needs to for the baby

Re: Weight Worries
You absolutely cannot calculate BMI when pregnant.
If you didn't gain weight there would be a problem so enjoy this time and the growing baby inside of you.

Re: Weight Worries
Why are you calculating your BMI? You're pregnant. BMI should not be used during pregnancy. You're supposed to be gaining weight.
I know it's hard to see the number on the scale climb. I'm almost 28 weeks and probably up about 25 lbs. I started out this pregnancy about 25 lbs lighter than my last one. With DS, I gained 45 lbs and lost it all by 6-8 weeks PP. As much as I hate the number on the scale, I'm pretty happy with the way I look this time. I know the weight will come off.
Your body is going to gain what it needs to. You may eat healthy and exercise throughout pregnancy yet still gain a lot of weight. Women's bodies react differently to pregnancy. Don't stress out about it.

Re: Weight Worries
You have not gained too much at all- your weight gain is totally normal if not a little low. You have a growing child inside you- not a hard bump! Embrace this magical time in your life, its an amazing ability to create another human and you should try to focus on that and not what you weigh. A positive outlook on your body and pregnancy will make you feel better.
FYI- I gained 40 lbs. w DS and lost 28 in the first week. The weight comes off, you will not look like this forever.

Re: Weight Worries
The only thing I can say is the most important thing is you and the baby are healthy. Just put things in perspective, do you know how many women are DYING to get pregnant? DYING to have a healthy baby? There is so much worse in the world there are times that it helps to put things in perspective...
Ive never been a woman who focused on my weight and Ive been lucky in life to be thin and it sounds like your thin... LOVE your belly. LOVE that you and your DH have created life... LOVE that you are blessed to be having a happy healthy pregnancy... LOVE the life thats inside and who cares how much weight you gain as long as its healthy weight and completely normal...
Trust me, coming from a someone who went through something traumatic; I dont care if I gained 50 lbs as long as my baby is healthy!
