Help! 2 year old freaks out over going to bed :(

The past few weeks have just gotten worse and worse. My son turned 2 in February. Bedtime was always a bit of an issue, but completely do-able. He knew his schedule, and we'd go upstairs, read a few books, he'd turn off the light and go in the crib. Usually we didn't even have to lay with him, he'd just lay down and eventually fall alseep. Now, he won't even want to go upstairs for bed. He starts screaming and saying no nap no nap. When we bring him up, he's so upset he won't even want a book. He just freaks out. When we put him in the crib he won't lay down. He gets himself so upset. When he finally lays down we have to sit with him till he falls alseep now or else he just pops back up. I feel that if we move him to a big boy bed, we'll still have the same issues, its not the crib, its the fact that he has to go to sleep. Anyone else deal with this? Any advice would be GREATLY appreciated. Its exhausting!!!

Did you try leaving a light on for him? or getting him a small flashlight?
