Anyone go camping with their dog?

I have a few camping trips planned this year and plan totake Maple.

Anyone ever go camping with their dog? Tips or suggestions?

I am getting shaded camping spots, and plan to keep him cool and hydrated!

When we had a friend who had a camper upstate, we used to bring Murphy. It wasnt rugged camping because the camper was like a house but for me, it was roughing it. Chat Icon

My main suggestion would be a REALLY long lead so the dog can go far from you but you have the security of the lead.

Re: Anyone go camping with their dog?

We ALLLWAAAYYSS used to bring our dogs camping.. they LOVED it!!

If you are planning on doing any hiking.. get the dog a vest so he/she can carry her own gear.. collapsible water bowls, water, bags, treats etc...

Does the camp ground have a pond? lake river? bring a bunch of extra "dog" towels... maybe a bandanna if it gets real hot you can soak it and tie it around their necks.

tick spray/collar/oil.. and a tick comb

If they are trained well i would let them loose. i dont even think we owned leashes for them... ours would just roam about our camp ground.

Good story - used to have 2 "blue" great danes.. and we used to go camping in the woods, not a camp ground. we went.. it was getting dark.. had a huge fire going. Park ranger must have spotted the smoke from a fire tower and came to investigate. Our dogs loved to lay on either side of the camp site just where the light from the fire mixed with the darkness of the woods. This poor park ranger.. strolled straight into the site and got scared sh*tless when he had two HUGE black dogs flank him from the dark.

Re: Anyone go camping with their dog?

He is a miniature pinscher. He's a peanut and he cannot be off lead. Its not real camping.... its a family campsite. Thanks for the input!

Pack individual baggies of food so you can easily pull them out as u need them. A really long lead so ur doggie and u can get some independent time w/o the worry of him wandering too far off. Also something to clean him up like Pawtizer wipes, they're antibacterial and you can use them on his body and paws, get them on Amazon. Collapsible bowls and baggies for poopies! Have fun :)
