Question for parents who already had their babies Baptised?

I'm having my younger DS baptism in July and I'm just about to start Baptism classes. I had my DS Baptised at the same church but there is a new pastor their now.
How many classes did you have to go to before the Baptism? This is a Lutheran Church, but I would like to know about the Catholic church as well.
Thanks!!

We had my DS baptized in roman catholic church, the class was just a one time one hour class to go over what to expect during the baptism, they showed us a video showing all the steps during the ceremonials that was it. They also collected the confirmation certificate and info of the godparents

I went to one one hour class. We watched a video and talked about what was expected of us and the church. It wasn't bad!

Re: Question for parents who already had their babies Baptised?

I'm upset because they are making me take five 1 1/2 hour classes a month before the Baptism. The first being on Fathers day and another at 7:45pm at night. I don't just have a newborn, I have a 3 year old at home. They want both parents to come. Now I have to find a babysitter for all those weeks. My younger DS is 3 months now and does not sleep alot during day.
I only had to take two classes at the same church with my son

Wow that sounds like a lot. We had to do 2 one hour classes. It didn't matter if one or both parents went.

We baptized DD in DH's Lutheran church and didnt have to go to any classes. Just signed up for a date and showed up. Followed the program to know what to do when the ceremony came.

I am baptizing my 3rd at the end of the month in a Catholic Church. All I had to do was tell them which date and give them copies of the Godparents sponsor letter. I took a 1-hour class before I had my first one baptized and was not required to take it again each time.

We are catholic and went to one class. It was about 45 minutes long and the priest just spoke to us about the importance of the church in our LOs life. No videos were shown or anything.

Re: Question for parents who already had their babies Baptised?

This makes me so upset. This is just way too many classes. My DH is very upset about Fathers Day since we had a BBQ planned for all the fathers at our house. Plus the class that day is about Raising a Baby. This is my second child, I'm okay on that subject. Plus, what does that have to do with a Baptism. These classes are geared more for first time parents.

I would ask the church if you could be excused from that class seeing as this is your 2nd. I was not required to do the baptism class for my 2nd because i did it for my 1st.

Re: Question for parents who already had their babies Baptised?

we are roman catholic. they had 1 pre-jordan class as they call it. we went on a sunday and i think it was not even an hour.

ETA: our church was real strict on the godparents though and the paperwork they wanted.

OP,i would find another church. 5 classes @ 1 1/2 hrs each is absurd. I dont even think Pre-cana for marriage is that long.

Catholic and we went to one two hour meeting (the priest forgot about the meeting and was late) before DS 1. Since DS 2 is being baptized at the same church, we didn't have to do the class again.

We had to meet with our priest twice. The first time was a small group (with other couples) to discuss what it means to baptized and what not. The second meeting was just DH and I and it was really for the priest to get more info about us.

Lutheran, no class at all. We did see one a few weeks before ours, so at least I had an idea what was coming.
