How important is a heart worm pill?
Does your dog take one? What brand and cost?

Extremely. Every dog will get bit by a mosquito and that is how heartworm is transmitted. We use it even through the winter b/c you never know. We met someone who did not use it on their dog during winter even, and the dog got heartworm. The treatment for heartworm is so hard and so severe, esp for some breeds, the treatment alone could kill them. In addition they have to be caged b/c their heart cannot exert energy from running, playing, etc. It is NO JOKE, very very severe, so we use it even during the winter.
We use Interceptor. I dont know the cost, I get it from my vet and I just pay it since I know its important.

I also give Shamrock heartworm pills through out the year.
He was on Interceptor also but they have temporarily suspended production.
I have now started giving him Heartgaurd which is so much easier to give to him. He thinks its a treat and I dont have to disguise it in cheese or peanut better

I also give Shamrock heartworm pills through out the year.
He was on Interceptor also but they have temporarily suspended production.
I have now started giving him Heartgaurd which is so much easier to give to him. He thinks its a treat and I dont have to disguise it in cheese or peanut better

Wow thanks for the letter we also have our dog on Interceptor Never knew they suspended production!!! Do you know the reason why? I still have some left wonder if I should stop giving it to him.

I don't know why they stopped production but I think it's ok to still give it to your dog. When I called my vet to ask what else I could get they told me they still had some in the office but it wasn't the right weight size for Shamrock. But give your vet a call and ask them

We use Heartguard, too. They actually love it. They would eat the whole pack in one sitting if I'd let them.

Remember you are not 100% preventing your dog from heart worm either when you give this pill.. They can still get heart worm.. tahts why every 6 mos the vet makes you test your animal so you can buy more heart worm pills ..
