I need desperate potty help PLEASE

DS will be 4 in September and I potty trained him in February....at least in theory. He will go on the potty if I bring him, but he will not tell me if he has to go. He pees in his pants sometimes because he doesn't say and maybe I'm in the kitchen so I don't notice the dance. I try to time him most of the time. Anywhere from 1 1/2 hours to 2 hours is about how often he'll go, more or less. However, if he has to poop, he'll say he has to use the potty. How do I get him to tell me he has to pee before he ruins all my furniture and carpet? I have tried explaining this to him, but he just says OK. I have also tried telling him that Mr. Underwear does not like getting wet. Mr. Underwear told him the same thing. Anyone have any suggestions for me?

What about a potty watch? It will remind him that he has to go? I am no help as I am in the same kind of potty hell

The thing is, he knows he is going. He pees if he is too busy playing with something, or watching TV. He will go on the potty no problem when I take him. The problem is getti g him to tell me he has to go pp.

We're in the middle of training right now and there are a few things that have worked for us.

Every time we head into the bathroom, I make Zach tell me " I have to go to the bathroom". And then we go. After 3 days, it's starting to stick.

We also bought undies with characters on them from Nemo and Cars. I told him after he had an accident, " we don't pee-pee on our friends" and that has really stuck with him.
